The Silent Mob
Isolated incidents have been reported from both Geneca and Moroam of strange entities moving through desolate regions. These entities are featureless humanoids, 5-6 ft. tall, and have bodies made of mirror glass. They has no mind nor words, instead, they just walk towards whatever destination it feels necessary. Their calm steady footsteps, silence, and reflective bodies make them hard to notice yet researchers have studied them enough to give them a proper name: The Speculum Concourse.
All attempts to communicate with the Concourse have fallen flat, both verbally and mentally. Additionally, touching the humanoids does not seem to trigger a reaction. Groups always consist of 10-15 members and none have ever been observed at rest.
Certain ethnic groups like those around Harrick's Rise have folklore that may reference the Concourse. Strange legends of individuals or groups seeing shifts in the mountains or changing twists of the rivers, or tales of explorers seeing reflects of themselves traveling on trails miles away. These legends have been given even more legitimacy due to researchers observing a group of The Speculum Concourse walking straight into the sea, suggesting continental travel. For this reason as well as others already stated, it is extremely challenging to pin down how many members of the Concourse there are.
Pre-Dematalyst Sightings
One aspect to The Speculum Concourse which is even more troubling to the various scholars of Sonnerand is the origin of The Concourse. The aforementioned legends from Northern Geneca were written pre-Dematalyst. Magic gave The Concourse a context for its existence, yet sightings have been reported centuries before the Dematalyst went off.
This has led to a number of theories about The Speculum Concourse. Some say that The Concourse are the collective afterimages of dead souls. Others claim they are the ones who caused the Dematalyst. Others still are certain that they are a benevolent or malevolent force for a higher power. This, they ascertain, is proof that magic existed well before the Dematalyst went off.
Regardless of their intent, study on the Speculum Concourse has slowed significantly over the past 20 years. This is a result of numerous mysterious circumstances regarding the researchers of the horde. About 12% of all research expeditions set to study the Concourse have not returned. Expedition members who returned from many days of observing the Concourse have a tendency of contracting rare degenerative brain diseases. For both these reasons, the Concourse is avoided by the greater scientific community.
