Edra
The God King
Edra is the god of Sacrifice, Toil, Defensive War, Honor, and Passion for noble change and the weathering the harsh storm of reality. They are also the patron god of humanity, a symbol of their potential for good as drastic and constant elements of change. They like the rest of Dios Ragnium are loosely married to one another. They also represent the Emperor, the shortest lived office comparatively of the higher Imperial line. The Emperor is considered the highest priest and devote to Edra, and their rule is only permitted so long as it is Edra’s will.
Much of their importance is found in the Edren Empire's creation myth, but much of their worship involves praying to the river of Edrani, and to service towards charity and the state.
Their avatar is symbolized in a long haired human in black iron armor, often nursing a wound in their side. They are always non-binary, representing Humanity as a whole and the pantheons representation of genders beyond the binary. They're are symbolized with the shield and sword, shield first representing a preference for defense. Their hair is almost always unkempt representing humanities wildness.
History
Much of Edra’s origins have been lost or obscured, though most reason they were an old Human god that was melded by Elven hands for the creation myth, perhaps just the spirit of the River Edrani from which they get their name. Whatever Edra’s original myth was, little survive as it has become the symbol of the state and thus the states control of the image of Edra is absolute. Tempest domain is believed to be perhaps part of its early history as almost all Tempest clerics of Edra are not members of the imperial Church, often it is seen as the divine trait of adapting to the harsh storm of our world. As the creation myth has them founding the Empire, it is often believed that they are an exaggeration of a early Edren King.Cult
Part of the Imperial Pantheon. The head of the Church of Edra is the Emperor, but below them is the Senate selected First Shield, the arch Paladin. Devotees are required to perform a year of traveling Charity work and a year of Martial service to the state before entering the clergy proper. Many Paladin orders are within the cult of Edra and the Military Clerics are almost all war and life clerics of their cult.Myths
The Knife and the River Edrani
An important myth about Edra deals with their nemesis Asmodeus and a great duel. Apparently the fate of the world was beyond Edra's saving so they bet the Lord of Hell that they could defeat them in a duel. A nearly impossible gambit. The Duel raged for ten days and nights until at last Edra struck a winning blow to Asmodeus' shoulder. However not without sacrifice. The Lord of Hell would keep his word, but not the sportsmanship spirit, with Edra open in scoring the winning blow, an enchanted knife was placed into Edra's abbs causing on unhealing wound. Knowing pulling it out would mean immediate death, and healing was impossible, Edra resigned themselves to lay in the then stream of Edrani and let their blood mix with all those that died to fight off hell, thus fattening the river to its current size. Despite the pain they live still, in ascendance, so that their power may still go to other champions and will guide future Emperors. However stalled in pain prophesy says that the world will either be saved once a pure soul heals the wound and removes the Knife, or will end when Edra's last drop of blood flows out of their dying form.Divine Domains
