Sacred Band

The Sacred Band is a church funded monster hunting and cult eliminating organization and the starting party guild.

Structure

The Sacred band as a rather flat organization, with most of its hierarchy coming from theImperial Church of Myrrine. At the head of the organization is the Oath master, who administers the larger structure of the organization, below them are the Oath Takers, a series of trainers and clerical workers who collect contract, train new Bandmen, run new offices, recruit, and perform most of the day to day administrative and support work. Below them are hte bandmen, often called Oathtakers, a bastardized version of Justicars to Oathbreakers. They operate with no explicit hierarchy of ranks as field agents acting in informal groups or on their own freely or with set grounds. Often they act as independent agents taking contracts and being paid by the job. Sometimes when given an order from the church they may form a unit known as a Trust these units will have two higharchacle positions.   The Decisioner- Responsible for breaking ties when the group can't come to a decision and also speaking with and filling out reports and completed contracts. THe Vocal head of the group. The Church leaves who this is to the group but usually recommends someone.   The Oathholder - a sort of church assigned commodore that ensures the group remains on taste for the church and does not stray into the territory of bandits and criminals. The Church usually picks the most pious member.

Public Agenda

The Sacred Bands primary duty is to enforce The Sacred Oath across the whole of the continent in all territories that recognizer them. They are to enforce the regulations on Conjuration, Necromancy, and Enchantment Magic. Eliminate and arrest members of unapproved cults, enforce bands on planer travel, and insure dangerous artifacts and knowledge are returned to the Church of Myrrine and not left in the hands of dangerous people.   However as more time passed the duties of the Sacred Band increased with the times. Exorcisms, monster hunting, bandit elimination. In many ways they became state sanctioned Mercenaries for public use. And as their duties expanded so did their reputation as veteran warriors. Though the days of being tied to Chivalry have long since passed.

Assets

Most major cities in every country that recognizes the Sacred Bands authority have an office of the Sacred band, usually a Temple of Myrrine, an Edren Embassy or its own building where agents can collect contracts and return for payment. along with that the Sacred band keep numerous smaller facilities forts and other such military capabilities in more wild areas. The main headquarters and administrative building is inside Edra's isle, the majority training field is Fort Alfried outside Lakolis, where many Bandmen are trained.   Beyond that the Sacred band keeps a reasonable arsenal of supplies and funds though not much of note as logistics is more of a matter for the Church of Myrrine.

History

The Sacred band was formed in year 3 as The Imperial Guide's answer to how to enforce the Sacred Oath across the empire and thus prevent the Second Calamity from resuming.   Initially the organization pulled from the highest of the imperial Dragonborn and hunted only cults and dangerous artifacts under the management of the Imperial Church of Myrrine. However the wide reaching powers and skills that proved useful for this grew to assisting in the elimination of ghosts, monstrosities, and fiends. This earned the organization a renown and popularity despite being officers of imperial law.   So much so as the Edren Empire began to have provinces break away, these new nations kept the Sacred Band as a function within in society. This prompted the organization to pay agents operating in foreign offices via contracts instead of by the nation itself.   This would be a slow ethical degrading force however, as the purpose of the order grew wider, its contracts more financial, its members more about skill than ethical considerations, the organization became somewhat unfairly, a place of mix repute. However the top management is often of excellent quality, and its organization, for whatever other failings, have prevented anything close to a calamity nor have they yet become a political organization.
