Donorians are a sentient humanoid species native to the planet Donora.
Physiology
Donorians are humanoid with two arms and legs and four fingers (three fingers and a thumb on each hand) and four toes on their feet. They stand on average around six feet tall. They have external ears which have long dangly barbel-like organs on the bottom of them.
They have head tendrils that slightly move and can express emotion, the tendrils are short when they are young but get longer as they age before stopping in midlife. When they get emotional or startled, the tendrils will puff up and move around which is believed to be something initially developed as a protective mechanism to make them look bigger and more intimidating. When the person is not emotional, the tendrils will lie flat.
They have very colorful skin tones in shades of green, yellow, blue, and grey which helped them hide in the vegetation in the past. They may also have watery mottled patterns on their skin, often most prominent on their arms and the top of the head.
There may be variations in skin tone within the various groups across the planet but since the population is pretty connected and travel and immigration across the planet is easy the ancestral homelands of these variations aren’t really important. There is an inherited genetic mutation that causes a small percentage of Donorians to be born with red or purplish skin.
Donorians have four fingers (three fingers and a thumb on each hand) and four toes on their feet.
They have dark eyes, normally brown or bordering on black, with circular pupils and a large iris. They also lack eyelashes and eyebrows, instead, they have slight bumps on their brow and a third eyelid. This third eyelid is translucent and see-through, so they can close this eyelid without losing full vision. These third eyelids protect the eye from dust, foreign particles, etcetera.
Other Traits
They have telepathic/empathic abilities, believed to come from a strong pheromone sensing ability, which allows them to sense the emotions and thoughts of people. These abilities are more effective on other Donorians but still give them some sense of emotions of those outside their species. Due to this telepathic/empathic ability, Donorians tend to have strong social relationships both with family and with friends, even people that they don’t know are still treated like a friend unless maliciousness is sensed.
Donorians tend to live longer than humans, often reaching the age of 120.
