Onos Anohai is an abbey of the
Cirelian Sisterhood, a female monastic order of the
Daanist religion. It is a historical site on Cirelia and is still home to a monastic community.
Those living in the monastic community live an ascetic life meaning they have taken a vow of poverty and renounced material possessions. As such, the sisters of the abbey, make most of their own food and clothing as well as making goods that they could sell and raise money for the abbey.
The Abbey is mostly closed off to the public, really only allowing people in during special celebrations and services, and even then, the abbey only allows a limited amount of people in.
Architecture
Onos Anohai is made up of multiple buildings each with multiple stories, some of the buildings function as sleeping quarters, others as storage and workrooms, and others as places of spiritual contemplation.
Being a few centuries old, the architecture is quite antiquated and old-fashioned. It has high arched ceilings to let in lots of light, and there are lots of arches and domes. It is due to this old architecture, as well as the library’s contents, that the abbey is considered a historical site and receives funding from the government for restoration and preservation work.
The abbey is home to a large private library which is home to many historical and theological documents and artifacts. The library is one of the main draws to the abbey, with many people making pilgrimages to the abbey just to look at their books.
The abbey is also home to large gardens, many of which are functional growing fruits and vegetables for the sisters. The gardens also have benches and small clearings where the sisters can reflect and think.
Leadership
Onos Anohai is a self-governing community, with an abbess elected from among the sisters by the sisters. The abbess is the leader of the community and is responsible for the maintenance and general running of the abbey.
The abbess does not lead worship services but rather will have a local Habt or Arroten on call that will lead any worship services, the abbess and the elder sisters can and will gove general spiritual advice and guidance.
