Thunese Opera

The Thunese opera is a traditional performing art originating from the culture of the planet Thunus. It involves the telling and acting out of dramatic and oftentimes tragic stories through the art of theater with acting and dancing involved.

The Staff & Performers

The Performers

The actors play the characters in the story and often wear very fancy over-the-top costumes with lots of streamers and big shoulders on the outfits and fancy and identifying makeup on the person’s skin.   The actors speak and act as the characters, often monologuing through song to the audience about their internal thoughts, they also may dance as they move as a way of making the movements of the actors more dramatic; at some points in the performances, the actors might suddenly burst into dramatic dance and song.   Musicians and even orchestras perform, or their recordings are played, during the performance to add atmosphere and ambiance to the performance.

The Stage & Stagehands

The stage for these performances is often elevated slightly so the audience at the back can see them. The props and backdrops for the stage are minimal with simple styles so that people are focused on the characters and the performance rather than the background. The stage may include trapdoors and rotating sections to be used for extra drama and visual effects.   The stagehands and background people are the people responsible for the special effects and the moving of props on and off the stage; they tend to be dressed simply so as to not distract the audience and may even be dressed as background characters and work as members of the chorus.

Play Structure

The Operas tend to follow a three-act format with the first act introducing the characters, the setting, and the basics of the plot/the characters’ goals. The second act is when the drama ramps up and conflicts and drama start to boil over with the end of the second act functioning as the climax of the story and the drama. The third act works to resolve the events of the play and lead the story and characters to its end.   Tragedies and dramas are the most popular form of Thunese Operas with the characters often being involved with revenge quests, love triangles, and forbidden romances type of thing.
