Navbox

The first Navbox were created following the first gate jump made by the "Runner". The Navboxes at first were used in conjunction with probes to guide and navigate the cosmic filaments pulled by the Gate Systems and gave the user's ship a safe pathway into the next system. In later years, they would be developed in order for users to slingshot themselves through multiple gates at a time, or for the user to select which gate they would eventually arrive at.   These are necessary for any interface with gates, lest the pilot risks uncharted navigation errors and could potentially die during transit, or end up far from their intended destination.   Navboxes from before the Silence are a highly sought after commodity, as they can plot charts that have not been used since potentially before when the gates shut down. This means that they could lead to potential discoveries of whole new systems and societies.
