Imperial Marine Corps
Composition
Manpower
Imperial Marines, like every other branch of the Imperial Armed Forces, are volunteer-only, but that doesn't stop it from fielding awe-inspiring 3.77 billion of personnel.
Equipment
Standard equipment of an Imperial Marine comprises of powered armor with a cyberlink connected directly to their own cybernetic implants providing real-time feedback. Every Marine is also issued an emergency medical kit, a jump pack and two days worth of rations.
Weaponry
Marines use a wide range of weaponry, but in the last few decades the Empire transitioned from traditional weapons to laser and pulse-charged weapons. A basic Marine wields a standard ArmaCarta LR-49 Laser Rifle, VexTech APR-43 Pulse Rifle or AeonForge APC-51 Pulse Carbine (depending on the branch of the Marines), a VexTech PDL-9 pistol and a set of AeonForge Grenades.
LR-49 Laser Rifles are issued only to the Naval Corps, as they trade off manufacturing cost for basically limitless supply of ammunition, as charge packs used by laser weapons can be charged via dedicated solar collector units or by excess energy produced by the armor every marine is issued.
The Stormtroopers Corps is using mostly APC-51 Pulse Carbines, as they offer higher rate of fire than APR-43, while still packing more or less the same punch with a shorter barrel, through usage of higher capacity and higher quality coils and capacitors.
The Garrison Corps uses almost exclusively APR-43 Pulse Rifles, as they are cheap to manufacture and offer a good balance between effective range, accuracy and rate of fire, while not being unwieldy in urban environments.
Vehicles
Marines utilize a wide variety of vehicles. In their arsenal there is a vehicle for every conceivable terrain, from earth-like paradises to io-like hellscapes. The most popular IFVs of the Marine Corps include:
HTF (Heraklion-telveturilfabriko) CT-33 and its predecessor CT-21 mechanized troop transports
HTF IB-12, IB-33 and IB-53 infantry fighting vehicles
MIKT (Mekanika Inĝenierado Konglomerato de Terra) ŜT-27, ŜT-31, ŜT-44 and ŜT-49 hover tanks
Tactics
Marines utilise different tactics depending on the branch they operate in. The Stormtrooper Corps adheres to Rapid Deployment and Assault doctrine, The Naval Corps follows the Interstellar Combat Doctrine, which revolves around orbital drops, elastic supply lines and orbital artillery support, while The Garrison Corps adheres to Elastic Defense and Guerilla Warfare Doctrine, which revolves around light defenses stretched out into multiple layers meant to slow down enemy's advance and eventually to ground it to a halt and then destroy the enemy with a crushing counter-attack.
Given that most fighting takes place in urban environments, the Marines are experts at CQB tactics and also receieve extensive awareness training.
Logistics
Upkeep
The Marine Corps costs the Empire around 0.5% of its GDP to sustain and additional 0.5% is spent yearly on equipment purchases. About 45% of the maintenance cost is spent on salaries, about 35% goes to maintenance of equipment and vehicles and the remaining 20% are the logistical costs.
