Clockwork Beast

With the development of more advanced weaponry, including advances in canonry, automatic rifles and so on, came a new problem. How to transport said weapons to the frontline. Draft animals such as horses where sometimes used, but there were limits to what they could be expected to pull. Eventually, the solution to create a automaton to carry the heavy weapons came up. The clockwork beast of burden, or clockwork beast for short, was a quadrupedal weapon platform. Initial designs were plain, but based on the name, clockworkers  began adding animal flairs, eventually adding claws and teeth, features that also enabled the clockwork beast to fight back in engaged in close combat. Some even became outfitted with the engraved disks that enabled tehm to attain full consciousness.   Many of the sapient clockwork beasts continued to serve in the military, where they could not just carry heavy weaponry, but also operate it, thought doing so requires connecting the weapon to their overclocking system and thus carried the same limitations. Created for army use, clockwork beasts often views the world in battlefield terms and some had trouble adjusting to life outside those parametres.   In combat, they engage from afar with their powerful heavy weaponry, the most common one being howitzers. Up close, they savage with their claws and teeth, using their overclock capability to defeat stubborn foes. Being military creatures, they have a good sense of tactics and can be expected to fight analytically and intelligently.

Anatomy

Clockwork beasts can vary a lot in looks. In general, they are quadrupeds and have very broad, bulky backs, the better to carry cargo or equipment with. Like others of their kind, they require rest to restore the magic that keeps their clockwork innards wound.
