Jinn-Cursed Ghoul
The jinn of the Ghul Tribe, themselves scavengers by nature, abhorred letting things go to waste, even their enemies. Yes, mortals who intruded upon the secrets of the Jinn had to be dealt with, but just reducing them to ash seemed like a missed oppertunity. Thus, they concocted a spell that would infuse the target with necrotic magic, smothering their life essence and ravaging their mind, reducing them to a ravenous but pliable creature, a jinn-cursed ghoul.
It is believed that these are one of the oldest documented form of ghouls, and that the tribe who created them, the Ghul, ended up lending their name to this entire type of undead. Jinn-cursed ghoul are just as feral as others of their kind, except towards the Ghul, whom they instinctually obey.
After The War of Broken Chains, the process of creating ghouls was forbidden in the territories of the Suqaran, Qawramalian and RIshine people. Even among the jinn the process lost favour and began to be seen as unnecesarrily cruel, with the Hamia investigating any case of it happening in modern day times. Thus, few Ghul practise it, but many forgotten jinn ruins still houses traps that can convert entire hosts of explorers into new packs.
In battle, jinn-cursed ghouls fight like a pack of rabid animals, surrounding their targets and tearing into them with claw and teeth. As creations of jinn, they are blessed with resistance to fire and will ignore any such attacks unless overwhelmingly powerful.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The djinn-cursed ghouls resemble their original species, though warped, with pronounced teeth, long claws and a posture that usually leaves them walking on all fours.
Being undead, they lack a lot of the vulnerabilities of the living. They never sleep, are affected by neither poison nor disease and cannot feel pain. They do experience hunger, though, and it is one of their primary drives. The effects of jinn magic also leaves them notably resistant to fire and heat.
Genetics and Reproduction
Djinn-cursed ghouls can neither procreate nor pass on their condition to others.
Ecology and Habitats
Jinn-cursed ghouls are found in the same areas the jinn are. Thus, they are most common in desers or similar environs.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Jinn-cursed ghouls, despite being undead, need to eat. They prefer the flesh of their own species, especially if ripened by rot. Thus, they often raid graveyards or tombs. If easy meat is not found, they will often aggressively hunt in packs, preferably their own still-living kind. But they will eat any meat available to slake their hunger if need be.
Behaviour
Consumed by hunger, jinn-cursed ghouls are almost constantly looking for food. They'll scavenge and hunt as needed, only pausing to digest and wait for the hunger to return. Jinns of the Ghul tribe can command them, as can some necromancers, in which case they may exhibit unusual behaviour.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Jinn-cursed ghouls gather in packs, lead by the strongest and most capable. This is either a alpha ghoul or someone with the power to infleunce the undead, such as a jinn or necromancer.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Jinn of the Ghul Tribe use coralled and pacified ghouls as hunting hounds and guard animals. This practise fell out of favour after the War of Broken Chains, but some still practise it.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The practise of creating Jinn-Cursed Ghoul originate in and remains most common in the Sphere of Sabiralsahra, and thus so do the ghouls.
Average Intelligence
The curse erodes most of the intelligence, leaving a feral, even animalistic shell behind. These ghouls can, however, still be crafty, although their monomaniacal focus on food can also make them predictable.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Jjinn-cursed ghouls have an exceptional sense of smell. As it is primarily used to track corpses, they are quite unbothered by foul or putrid smells. Their eyes are also adapted equally well to day or night.
