The Primal Awakening

Deep beneath the capital city of Azipur lies the Primal Generator, a mystical object of great power. It brims with Primal Power to such a degree, that anyone with the slightest connection to primal magic can sense it while touring the city. Its touch can empower a person imbue them with magical power or improving it if it already exists.
The Primal Awakening is the name of the ceremony in which young dragons are invited to be enhanced with the power of the Primal Generator, an honor few refuses. It is seen as a step into the ranks of adulthood, as the dragon becomes part of one of their nation's great secrets.
Those dragons who undergo the ceremony return changed, their entire being expanded with its power. The ranks of these empowered dragons have created one of the most fearsome military forces known among the spheres.

History

In 1071 AIT while expanding the caverns of Azipur, the dragons of the Azi Empire stumbled upon a marvelous artefact, a strange and mystical machine they called the Primal Generator. Realising the sheer power and potential this devise possessed, for good or ill, they sealed off most of the possibly entryways, creating the Generator Sanctum. In 1145 AIT, their research had paid of and they realized how they could use the device to empower their innate magical powers. The ritualisation of this became known as the Primal Awakening.

Execution

At the age of twelve, any dragon citizen of the Azi Empire is given the choice of undergoing the ritual. This is seen as a step into the rank of adulthood and having undergone the ceremony is a requirement for many higher offices.
Once a dragon has agreed and a date been set, they are first brought to an older dragon, who will go over the detail of the ceremony, make sure the young dragon has fully understood the ramifications of their choice and have them swear an oath of discretion to not reveal what they will see to outsiders.
Once that it settled, an escort will bring them to the Generator Sanctum. Their, a circle of dragon druids will channel its power into the young dragon to empower them. The experience has been described as being torturous, blissful, agonizing, orgasmic and all of the above.
Afterwards, the escort will bring them to a nearby cave with a soft nest, piles of food and bowls of clear water to recuperate, as their mind, soul and body slowly adjust to the change. Once they have rested for a while, they are escorted back to the surface, though most end up taking a few more days to fully recover.

Participants

The three main roles are the mentor, escort and channeler.
The mentor ensures that the young dragon has understood all aspects of the ceremony and what it will mean for them, as it cannot be undone.
The escort bring them to and from the Generator Sanctum, as well as ensures their comfort during their initial rest.
The channelser maintain the massive surge of power from the Primal Generator, ensuring that it empowers the young dragon rather than tearing them apart.

Observance

The rite is offered to all dragons of the Azi Empire of twelve years of age or older.
