War Demon
War has been a companion of civilisation for far longer than anyone can remember. Be it over ressources, ideology or base impulses, war has has many causes. And those caught in its grasp feel strongly about it, be it heroic bravery on the frontline, intenses dread while hiding in the trenches or an eerie calm as a dying soldier accepts their fate. And from those emotions the war demon is born.
War demons love war. They also fear it, hate it, worship it and desire it. Every single emotion one canhave about war is represented through its fragmented body. Even when not directly engaged in conflict, the demon uses the events to reflect upon war, comparing the lull of an evening at the pub to the action of the battlefield. Be that as it may, few war demons would be away from the frontline for long.
The personality of the war demons tend to be grim and stalwart, with a preference of gallows humor. The weapons that form in their bodies are an extension of the demon and the demon can choose whom they harm. It is not unheard of for them to throw a grenade at an ally or fire off a gun, only for the attack to prove harmless, much to the demon's delight. For those who can stomach their antics, war demons prove reliable allies when push comes to shove.
Being born for battle, war demons prove themselves absolute terrors, combining brain and brawn to tactically lay their enemies low with overwhelming force. As their bodies generate weaponry, they can easily adapt to changing circumstances to deliver the exact attack they need, switching equipment on the fly. The sheer amount of weaponry they can bring to bear also means that lightly armored enemies find themselves completely suppressed. Even those who bring divine weaponry against them find war demons hard to kill, between their diffused nature and natural hardiness, a fact war demons use to willingly tank ridiculous levels of punishment from enemy counter-attacks.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A war demon is a peculiar case, being a sort of hive-minded organism. Each war demon is composed of about a dozen bodies, each of which can take a variety of forms. Colouration is useful greyish-brown and the size is about that of an average human, but beyond that, their anatomy varies wildly. Biped, quadraped, hexapeds are all common and any number of limbs and features may be present. They also occasionally display wings, though they're rarely developed enough to be useful. The reason appears to be that feelings about war are so powerful and diversified that the demon never could manifest in a single representative body. Scholars of demonkind are aware that this theory does raise a lot of questions that has yet to be answered. Each of these squad also has a commanding officer, who represents the most powerful of the many emotions that drive the demon. They act as tie breakers and decision makers for the group. While they too can return given time, taking them out does have a notable effect on the demon's ability to coordinate its members.
On top of that, war demons have a number of grizzly features, each of them displaying gruesome wounds and scars, their bodies pierced by various weaponry. None of this seems to do them any harm. These wounds seem to depend on when and where the demon originated. Older demons tend towards being run through with swords and having arrows stuck through them ,whereas more modern war demons are riddled with bullet holes and wrapped in barbed wire. These features makes engaging them in close combat hazardous, as they swing various armaments in their body around. They are not just for show, as the various bodies can gleefully pull the weapons from their bodies to use, a grizzly display that is nevertheless harmless to the demon. In fact, any damage inflicted by its own weapon has nothing but a visual effect. Internal arguments are often punctuated by the various troop members shooting or stabbing each other.
The bloody appearance also serves as a unique form of camouflage. If pushed to the brink, the war demon will often elect one troop member to play dead, for as long as one live, the rest will return. Due to their appearance, this can often convince their enemies that they have in fact killed the demon completely.
War demons are hardy beings. Anything but divine weaponry does nothing but scratch demon, an issue further exasperated by its multifaceted existence. The loss of any one given member of the troop is hardly a concern, as they will spontaneously respawn when the demon rests. And as is usual for demons, dark magic is completely ineffective.
War demons have a gritty personality and, while not immune to fear, seem to handle it very well, rarely shaken or panicked by anything.
Genetics and Reproduction
War demons are born out of the many intense feelings people feel about war, especially those having to endure it. They are capable of engaging in non-reproductive intercourse, usually treating it as a downtime activity between fights on par with drinking, gambling and sleeping.
Growth Rate & Stages
Newlyborn war demons will often try to find the nearest armed conflict to join, or in some cases, to start. As they grow older, they tend to grow more patient, carefully combing through the news to look for were war has or might soon break out. At this point they even seem to enjoy their downtime, though not nearly as much as actually fighting.
Ecology and Habitats
War demons are most at home on the battlefield and there serve a variety of purposes, easily adapting to any required role. As they are both skilled and tough, there's plenty of groups that would be more than okay with having one of them in their employ.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Like all demons, war demons are emotivores. They feed off the various flavors of fear, courage, despair, horror and hate war brings out ,each individual body having its own preference. Even the relief of being away from the battle or the anxiety of waiting for the next clash can nourish them, part of the reason why war demons usually develop a taste for downtime socialising between engagement.
