GR 04: Mystics of the Owl

In the northern region of Valkoraja -- more comonly known as the "White Colonies" -- the party was hired by a merchant named Master Kellemon, who sent them to recover certain rare mosses from an old deserted Gremin cave complex. In actuality, Kellemon was the head of an alchemist order known as the “Mystics of the Owl” who sought the materials for his work. Avoiding the local politics of the White Colonies, the party reached the mines to discover them inhabited by fierce, white bear-like creatures called Graggoths, who had overcome the native Clayfolk (Gremen) inhabitants.   Deeper in the mines, they confronted a rival order of alchemists who had sought the rare materials for themselves. Stealing the harvested materials in combat, the party decided not to return it to Kellemon, but sell it for themselves. While in the mines, the party also recovered a valuable golden owl statue that had been stolen by Kellemon’s rivals, which was currently sought by a Marshal named Kiersis. The assassin Bagarov, finding an opportunity to steal the owl for himself, turned on his party and killed the young swordsman Eurek, fleeing with the treasure. The entire party was later captured by Kiersis’ men, who brought them to justice.   OUTSIDE GAME-TIME: Bagarov was sentenced to serve for life as a bound oarsman on a Doltrek navy ship. It is said that he was a prisoner on board the ship, Trivec, when it sank off the coast of Averi in the campaign GR 5: Betrayal at Sea. Scott Renstrom had written some 'fan-fiction' using his character Eurek as a the main character.   MEMORABLE MOMENTS: This series notoriously featured the first murder of one player character by another (prompting the famous line from Scott, “This isn’t fair... I had gotten him all the way up to second level!”). The campaign also introduced a number of “house rules” and additions (alchemy, the manufacture of ethereal items, etc.) which later became the basis for some of the SpiritQuest rules.   SUBSEQUENT CONNECTIONS: Some of the background characters (NPC and PC) in this campaign reappeared many years later in 2015 in campaign GR 31: Lost and Found, also set in the White Colonies, just prior to the events of this campaign. Master Kellemon was the patron employer of the sylvan herbalist Twill. It was established that this region, formerly occupied by the Lunari, was repopulated by halfae Lansians (westerners), under the auspices of the fae Kingdom of Oriliath.
