Temples of the Sky

The glory of the LORD went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth before my eyes as they went out... (Ezekiel 10:18-19)
Time and space were of little constraint to the early Elvá. They created permanent ethereal portals by which to pass through the Ethereal Realm. These portals, later called ‘Sanctuaries of the Heavens’ or ‘Temples of the Sky’, were built in every land throughout the world. They were used by the Elvá to travel from one place to another, through the Ethereal Realm. Leaders of the Elvá were able visit and keep watch over every people and place of the world. Awing the tribes of humanity with their power, they appeared as gods to the children of clay.   Making use of the secondary ethereal Ley Lines, and the flight of the Grephyn mounted explorers, the Fae were able to locate many of the worldwide ethereal nodes. Rebuilding on the sites where earlier ancient dragons once stood, the Fae created what would be known as the Temples of the Sky (or Sanctuaries of the Heavens). These large ethereally constructed edifices were each crowned with a great statue of a sphinx-like winged Sentinel. Built on or near the many major ethereal ley lines, these powerful sites became terminals for ethereal teleportation throughout the world, and allowed the Fae to interact peacefully and trade with many cultures across Aerith.   Ethereal Nodes: These are the spots on the planet where the intersecting primary and secondary ley lines form a worldwide ethereal grid. Nodes are often classified according to their proximity to the primary ethereal poles, and the strength of the ley lines.   Ethereal Poles: Similar to magnetic poles, ethereal poles exist on opposite sides of the planet (not equivalent with the rotational poles). There are two pairs of pole, the primary and secondary poles, from which extend spoke-like ley lines that meet together on the exact opposite side of the world.

Purpose / Function

In the course of time, other ethereal portals were built by later generations of the Elvá. Known as Ethereal Gates, they connected two points in the material world directly. Joining major continents and land masses, the Gates allowed great numbers of people to pass from one place in the world to another in no more time than it takes to cross a threshold. By means of such Gates, the Elvá were able to conquer and enslave the lesser children of humanity, forging a great empire built on fear and subjugation. About this, God was not pleased.
