MoM Session 1: The Pentacle Assembles
General Summary
May 11, 1994 - Wednesday
On an unseasonably chilly spring morning, mages all throughout Milwaukee were going about their business for the day. Slush was finishing up a workout, Gabriel was getting ready for a fishing trip, Medea was trying on dresses for a Memorial Day gala, Rembrandt was commuting to the local high school for work, and Morgan Lindquist was scoping out the benches in Veterans Park for a good place to sleep. All of their routines got thrown out the window, however, when the city's archmage Tiresias summoned them all for an emergency meeting in the union hall of the Milwaukee Free Council. The night before a series of supernatural phenomena had disturbed the city's Sleepers, threatening to attract the attention of the more powerful Chicago Consilium unless Milwaukee's libertines quickly handled the situation. Tiresias gave this disparate group of mages a week to figure out what was causing these weird events to happen, providing them with a list of situations throughout the city and a couple of awakened to interrogate. Gabriel made sure to catch up with his mother Jophiel before making Midwestern-style small talk with all his new friends. The cabal split up for the afternoon to try and finish their mundane errands before reconvening at a fancy restaurant on Medea's dime. Over dinner, well-defended from any nosy mages or sleepers alike, the party reviewed what Tiresias had given them about last night's occurences: a raptured junkie leaving nothing but his clothes behind, a storm of fish from Lake Michigan, a morning jogger suddenly plagued by a broken jaw, five lottery winners all at the same gas station, and a statue in Veterans Park transformed into PBR beer cans. Mysteries such as these would take some time to unravel, but the cabal got a head start that night by investigating the lottery tickets and the beer can statue. Together they identified the forms of magic on display in these events: while the Nimbus for them all seemed alien to anything they'd studied before, there was clear evidence to suggest that more powerful forces were at play in Milwaukee. Looks like tomorrow will be a day for interviewing the out-of-towners...
