Concept: Magic Symbol

Alt Name: Magical Mark Magical marks are essentially magic tattoos to the skin, permanent and unremovable. When installed to a wielder or a mage, they are granted special abilities that exceed the normal parameters of Leray magic, or abilities that can operate without detection of the Leray veil, often to oppose rules of the veil. Most of these marks were made for war during the Avion Wars, and yielded many destructive results. One of the few known examples of a symbol was one that would render a holder invisible simply by using MP energy over time. Symbols do not hide from the eyes however. If installed on the skin, it cannot be rendered invisible, and many machines now exist that can detect symbol wielders at short range. For obvious purposes, the use, possession, or installment of magic symbols is highly illegal and contains the same consequential punishment as the use of dark magic. Those who possess symbols (known as the "marked ones") are seen as enemies of the country, and feared by the people for what these symbols represented during the deadliest period of the Avion Wars. Many say that the creation of the symbols and their use against defenseless humans during that war was the great push that led many away from both factions of their armies to reform a third faction fighting for peace, magic, and personal freedom combined together.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The tattoo is a similar form of genetic alteration of one's magical circuits. The crests that appeared all did so in a holographic projection format, very similar in lighting to that of glyphrings, though still very distinguishable. Symbols are said to stay with people forever, even if they were to leave the Sprawn Valley veil and return again. Symbols of course cannot operate or show up when outside of a magic veil, but they cannot be removed either. It is rumored that the mage at the Den of Purity might be capable of removing among many permanent effects of magic, magic symbols, but this is only a rumor. The official removal of symbols if possible would be handled by the League of Elites directly.
