Korame Zo

Lieutenant Korame Zo (a.k.a. Zo)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A bit short. trim and fit. Like a mouse, she can blend in easily, but it also makes it harder for her to be noticed when she actually wants to say something important.

Special abilities

She has been known to quickly diagnose and repair problems with most any federation computer system. Her gift of improving a solution is easy to observe in a difficult moment.

Apparel & Accessories

She has never paid fashion much mind, so she is usually found in her uniform whether the occasion calls for it or not. She likes the flexibility of the "skant" uniform, but also knows from experience of crawling through Jefferies tubes growing up, that a good pair of leggings is helpful. She is usually seen with her shoulder bag, which carries a tricorder, a few select (although rotating) tools, and at least one PADD, which is probably in her hand being read over any socializing she could have considered. Her hairstyle, and the messiness of it, will clearly indicate if she has buried herself into another research project.

Specialized Equipment

She is skilled at ship computer and power systems, shuttlecraft operations, astronavigation, and has some skills in cultural studies.

Personality Characteristics

Hygiene

Questionable.  She usually remembers a shower, but does forget to brush her hair and occasionally forgets to change uniforms if she's on a research kick.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Korahar and Olom Zo Professor Conner Chief Engineer ?? (of the USS Truman) not really anyone else, as she just doesn't socialize much.

Family Ties

Just her parents, who moved away from Betazed in their teens to attend Starfleet and never looked back. If she were to say she had any sort of cultural upbringing, she would say it was "Starfleet."

Religious Views

There is clearly a creator of the universe due to how it "runs like a well-oiled machine."

Social Aptitude

Awkward at best. Usually just hangs quietly by herself near the edge of the room.

Mannerisms

She is usually described as "head in the clouds" or "head in the books" (or PADDs, as the case may be), distracted by fantasy books or researching some possible ship improvements.

Hobbies & Pets

fantasy books, smooth jazz, astrocartography, technical research.

Korame Zo's journey to the USS Truman.

Korame Zo grew up on a Starfleet space station deep under her parents' shadows. Her father works in Hydroponics and her mother works in exobiology. Both have done incredible research and development to their respected fields of study, but her mother, Korahar Zo, is exceptionally well known among those that study exobiology to the point that Karame didn't even get a break from her mother's shadow during Starfleet Academy.   During her childhood, growing up on a Space Station ???, Korame was able to mostly get her own run of the station. She definitely got away with more than she should have, due to being sneaky, and disciplined lighter, due to being one of very few children among understanding adults, and perhaps due to her innocent nature.   While at Starfleet Academy, she was an average student. Subjects that bored her or seemed unimportant to her fields of study, she took lightly and would pass with average grades. Those that she excelled at were deemed too remedial for her time and she passed those with average grades as well. Her professors saw her as either uncaring or undisciplined and not worthy of a high recommendation. Unfortunately, she realized this too late.   After the academy, she applied to a few prestigious starships, expecting to get one of them. Not the Enterprise, of course, although she did send that one out as well, but surely one of her top 3 choices would someday lead her there.   She was passed over for those "more dedicated" and failed to realize why until it was too late to get any assignment other than the starbase she grew up on. Professor Conner offered her a research position at the academy, but she had been mocked enough by the new senior class at the academy. Combined with the disdain and pity by various professors, she decided to return home to live in her parents' shadows once more.   tbc--her time at home and overcoming her failure at starfleet academy, and eventually getting on board the Truman.

USS Truman, first away mission (part 1)

I finally went on my first real away team mission! I found it exciting, but also fully terrifying. There was so many unknowns that we had to deal with. I can't even remember the last time I experienced anything new. And of course, I blew it on my first real engineering task. What was I thinking of plugging in our fuel cell into the ancient ship?! I'm just glad I didn't blow my face off.   And the one thing I totally excelled at?!? The sciencey bits, of course!! Ever the daughter of Korahar Zo, that's for sure. humph. At least no one out here has come running up to me to talk about Mom's latest achievements...yet. Maybe I can get out of her shadow, if I commit to that choice.   I guess I should record the facts as well. sigh. What's a good journal log without them?   We went to a planet called Aram. It reads as a class L planet, however it has a small section that is clearly class M. Within that small section is a pre-industrial civilization and an ancient, near 200,000 year old ship. The probe scans made the scientists believe it was Iconian, but it doesn't match anything we know about Iconians. They didn't want it to contaminate the locals, and wanted it removed. However, it seems to be the source of life, having seeded the river with some sort of plankton and creatures.   This will require more investigation. We will need to watch the interactions, if any, between the creatures and the local population. Also, we are considering capturing one of the creatures to study it farther. I feel that knowledge is important, but I do worry about capturing intelligent life.
