DFI Medic Droid

A precursor to the IM-series of medical droids, the DFI medic droid is a prototype line that was discontinued in favor of alternative builds. Cheap to maintain, but less effective than other medical droids, the Dantooine Force Institute bought the remaining models of this line to use as first aid support during combat training.

Description

This model is built out of a lightweight plasteel armor casing, outfitted with dual repulsor lifts to allow hovering over any terrain. Two arm attachments allow for manual maneuvering of patients and contain sockets for interchangeable medical tools to connect.   The inner casing is lined with various canister for medical equipment, drugs, and kolto dispensers - useful for healing minor injuries and staunching severe bleeding wounds. Unlike many other medical droids, the limited storage space does not allow for more sophisticated technologies required for complex surgery.

History

Originally intended as an all-terrain emergency response medical droid, the DFI droid proved unsuccessful at being able to survive in harsher climates or provide intensive medical support for their intended duty. Designed with mobility and cheap cost in mind, the droid was not designed with the ability to carry heavier surgical equipment and was more susceptible to physical damage than current models. Due to these limiting factors, Czerka terminated production of this line in order to update its design and production blueprint.   Not wanting to lose profit on the unsuccesful venture, Czerka sought out potential buyers for the remaining bulk product in their droid warehouses. Eventually, sale of these droids was given to the D.F.I. in the hopes of garnering favor with the institute and the potential of future recruits from their students.
