Rikke Clan-Maas

Early Life

Childhood and Heritage

Rikke was born as the heir apparent to Clan-Maas, the largest and most powerful Ubese clan in Uba-IV. However, though it might seem his stature afforded him some recognition in the harsh living conditions of the wasteland planet, it did anything but. He was under constant pressure to rise up to the expectations placed upon him by his clan, to demonstrate the power, leadership and ruthlessness needed to survive on a dead world.   Rikke’s father, Trokk, has already started uniting the clans under one Uba banner, finding order through repression. But Rikke was ever uncertain if this was the correct path forward. What of the Yrak Pootzck? What would happen after Trokk's death? The thoughts of that uncertain, dark future plagued Rikke as he moved into his adulthood.

Pilgrimage

While Ubese were fated to live in this long-forgotten world, the Ubese who did escape the planet came back after a millennia and brought with them star-faring modes of transportation, However, the Ubese pride is to not leave their original home planet no matter how inhospitable. As such sires of Clan-Maas were expected to leave on a pilgrimage of discovery, and bring back with them technology and materials so that their kind will continue to survive. Simultaneously, they are expected to demonstrate that Ubese are still a power to be reckoned with.   Rikke undertook this duty himself when he grew to adulthood (aged sixteen), spending a decade surviving as a mercenary and bounty hunter. He grew in martial prowess and prestige both, amassing a prodigious amount of plunder for his clan.

Awakening

During his travels Rikke beheld the fall of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic. These events, coupled with the reordering of the Galaxy reinforced a belief Rikke had long held: that the Ubese would never reclaim their former status if they remained as they had for millennia, disparate and backward. They needed to set aside their clan infighting, unite as one people (including the “traitorous” yrak pootzck) to once again lay claim to their former glory as a galactic power.   Rikke began setting to his chosen task, using his reputation and clan name to begin the long process of unifying the peoples of Uba IV. Unfortunately, early in his endeavor, trouble arrived in the form of the Imperial Remnant. Due to the disparate nature of the Ubese clans, the Empire was able to quickly take control of vital stronghold positions, establishing mines and factories guarded by strong contingents. Despite being largely a wasteland world, Uba IV was rich in mineral wealth and precious materials. One need only ward off the Ubese to exploit these resources, an endeavor that had been the ruin of uncounted profiteers.   This Remnant, however, proved more difficult to dislodge. With little recourse and the Remnant growing in strength, Rikke took his proposal to the clan elders of the great assembly. And so, he has turned towards a different avenue: making sure that in the New Republic, the Ubese people will be represented and demonstrate that they, too, are capable of nation-building. Even after their planets have been expunged from Republic records, and traders long shunned them, Rikke wants to see his people flourish. That being said, he will not kowtow to anyone, and especially not to New Republic officials bred of the same ilk as those of the Old Republic which ordered his planet be destroyed.
