The Rise of the Hutt Cartel marked the beginning of a brief truce between the Republic and the Sith. Both groups realized that they had become weakened enough to be vulnerable to other organizations in the galaxy.

EoD Lore: After the hutts nearly succeeded in becoming a third major galactic power, both the Sith Empire and the Republic agreed to a ceasefire so they could get their internal affairs in order. Although the truce did not last long, it gave both sides time to rebuild and recuperate. It also allowed the Jedi and the Sith to deal with several threats that the galaxy at large had not been aware of. This includes the CZ-198 Incident, and the brief Dread War on Oricon. The Hero of Tython and the Barsen'thor vanished for a time, rumor has it they were investigating rumors of a newly returned Sith emperor, but the records are sealed.
