Necron Nebula

This vast nebula covers the breadth of nearly an entire space sector in the Unknown Regions. Enough that the few surviving records from Kwa explorers named the sector after the nebula. A wide collection of systems lie across, and in, the expanse of the nebula, bound by natural hyperlanes that thread the region like strands of a web. But beyond those thin strands, and around or in those systems, the Necron Nebula was known for other reasons.

Ion and gravametric storms ravage the region and plague outer worlds of the systems there. These violent storms complicate navigation, if not make it lethal for travel. Persistent ion clouds fill this region of space, causing traveling the nebula as dangerous as it is elsewhere, such as the Tapani Sector.

Two Sides of a Dangerous Coin

Another little understood aspect of the nebula is its strong connection to hyperspace. This connection is partially responsible for the thick and dangerous ion clouds that fill the region. Where many think this is a 'channel' or an easy way to traverse to hyperspace, it's in fact not. The nebula, and its clouds, are nothing more than a side-effect, a warning, as to the root of the actual problem.

Deep within the nebula, there are pockets where hyperspace and realspace overlap. No researcher in recorded history knows why or how, but that it just exists. Here, in the Necron Nebula, certain systems and areas exist in both realspace and hyperspace at the same time. This overlap does make traveling into hyperspace from realspace, or the other way around, easier. But it also has the unexpected side effect that a traveler may be blown off course by gravimetric storms and ripples, sending them to entirely different star systems than their actual destination. Rumors suggest that some space travelers have been even thrown into other galaxies, never to be heard from again.
