Tavya
Geography
Holopedia Galactica entry:
Tavya is a temperate world with excellent conditions for rapid plant growth in the Tavya System of the Freeworlds Territory in the Tapani Sector.
It has a lighter gravity range than typical inhabited planets in the galaxy. Visitors accustomed to standard gravity (natural or artificial) will find themselves able to lift heavier objects, but also having some difficulty with overall physical coordination. Most visitors require some practice before they can move around without careful consideration. Long-term visitors should revise their daily exercise regimen to prevent damage to musculoskeletal structures. Check in with medical experts once every two standard weeks to be sure that physiological effects are under control.
Local days are twenty-six standard hours long.
Local years are three hundred local days long.
Tavya has a Type I atmosphere: Breathable for most species. A type I atmosphere has a proper mixture of oxygen, nitrogen and other gases so that humans and most near-human species can breathe it unassisted. These atmospheres may have contaminants that over the long term have a detrimental effect.
The axis of the planet is offset approximately fifteen degrees to the orbital plane, causing very mild seasonal variation throughout the local year mostly experienced as "rainy season" followed by "monsoon season" followed by "tourist season". Temperatures average between -5 and 29 degrees Celsius, and are in the most comfortable temperature bands for humans and many near-human species.
The sentient population of Tavya was counted in the census of Tapani Year 12720 as 21 thousand. Short-term visitors in "tourist season" and/or Capital Season can increase that number to several hundred thousand, some of whom are itinerant workers in the hospitality industry.
The planet is approximately forty-five percent covered in land. There are many different terrain types, including hills, mountains, two modest-sized inland seas, rivers, and large oceans. Most of the land and some of the shallower underwater areas are jungles, including low-lying wetlands that support many forms of plant and animal life. Some settlements are domed or protected by forcefields, not for atmospheric reasons but to minimize the work that must be done when these Resort Cities are completely closed down and left empty during portions of the year which are neither sunny nor Capital Season.
The primary starport on Tavya, which is located near the tip of the long peninsula in the northwestern seas, is Standard Class. The starport is fully-staffed and equipped. Restocking services are available, and there is a small shipyard for minor repairs and modifications. Prices for repairs and modifications can be up to double normal prices, and take twice as long to accomplish. It is generally wiser to have repairs done at Tavya Nine.
