Murrot

Town for the Unholy

"Do something wrong? Something against the church? they send you out 'ere. Caged up cause you were bitten? they send you out 'ere. That's why they call it Murrot, cause that's what they leave you here to do."
— A worker from Murrot
Murrot is an industrial town east of the City of Starfell. It is a place where the "unholy" are allowed to live as long as they work for the benefit of Starfell.

Demographics

The majority of the residents of Murrot are turned vampires or the relatives of them, and those who aren't are often "heretics" that were deemed mentally stable enough to work. However, it is an open secret that many of the residents of Murrot are born-vampires, knowing that Murrot would be the safest place to hide within society and live a normal life.

Government

Murrot doesn't really have it's own government, being mostly controlled by the government of Starfell. It does, however, have a few small councils to deal with local issues. These councils are not representitive of the residents of Murrot, instead being the owners of the factories and mines, or agents from the Church of the Lightbearer.

Infrastructure

Factories and coal mines are commonplace in Murrot, being the workplace of the majority of the residents. There is also a railway connecting Murrot to the rest of Herrilund, which are mostly used to transport resources. There are also many workshops and

History

Murrot was one of the many towns that faced damage due to the meteors fromĀ the Fellian Rift. When the Starfell Stronghold was founded, one of the first towns it helped rebuild was Murrot, who subsiquently began providing the stronghold with goods. When the Church of the Lightbearer decided to use Starfell as their base and their holy city, the amount of resources they needed increased, and the Church, who had laid claim on Murrot, put more and more pressure on the town, taxing more and more from them. Eventually, Murrot grew tired of this treatment and rebelled against the church. The rebellion was unsuccessful, however, and the Church labeled the town as heretics. The Church refused to help Murrot with their increasing number of vampire attacks, leaving the town defenseless. Murrot eventually founded it's own vampire hunting organisation, known as the Murrot Cullers.   In the following years, the church struggled with getting enough resources for Starfell, realising their mistake of cutting off a big source of resources, and took over Murrot once again. in a Many people from Murrot fled the town, and those that remained were forced by the church to work, under threat of execution.   During and after the great demonic plague, The Church needed somewhere to put all the newly turned vampires. Eventually, they settled on using Murrot. The population of the town had been growing smaller each year due to the terrible conditions, resulting in the resource output dwindling. They decided to transport all the turned vampires that were well enough to work, solving both problems at the same time.   Alongside the industrial revolution, more and more turned vampires and heretics that were previously housed in special asylums were selected to work in Murrot. The workers were paid very little, and had strict curfew rules. During the The War on Darkness, the rules in Murrot became even more strict, and everyone in the town were under increasing scrutiny.

Architecture

The structures within Murrot have a focus practicality over style and aesthetics. Most of the non-industrial buildings are made out of scrap materials.

Natural Resources

Murrot's main matural natural resource is coal. Most of the coal mined from the town is transported to Starfell, with some going to the surrounding villages and towns.
