Please help! My house keeps falling down...
— an annoyed Strion

History

Origins

When the Strions first appeared, they built basic houses in the location that is now their founding city. Unfortunately, due to the extreme winds on Strion, these buildings collapsed after a few months, and needed constant maintanence and repair. A new building material was needed, and quickly...

Mudstone was first found by accident by some Strionan children who were throwing dirt (found on the surface of Strion) at the side of their house. Their parents, who were scientists, realised that the natural material created a barrier against the winds and protected the building.

Purpose

Mudstone is used in the building of traditional Strionan houses. The weather on Strion (especially the wind) is often extreme, and can cause fabricated materials to decay quicker. Due to this, the surface of strion itself, which is naturally resistant, is used to create a from of stone specifically for building. This material means that buildings last for years and years rather than just a few months. By creating this material, Strions had to spend less time re-building infastructure and can spend more time focusing on other areas of their life.
Since the development of mudstone, Strionan cities have flourished. With this material, many different architectural styles have emerged and methods of building have conbtinued to develop. However, some Strions, prefer to continue using their primitive design techniques which they tirelessly maintain and rebuild. Some areas, mainly those that are more sheltered, also choose to use pre-mudstone techniques as they use less materials and make building quicker.
