Purpose
This document is the legal contract signed by Charlie Lancaster when they agreed to pilot The Last Voyage into the unknown depths of space. The document holds both Charlie and their employer responsible for upholding any pre-agreed terms once the voyage has began. Charlie signed this document 6 years before the voyage, and it was released for public viewing in the International History Museum shortly after the announcement.
Historical Details
Background
The last Voyage was an important historical event for humankind. For a thousand years, space travel had been banned in order to help preserve Earth's atmosphere. However, in 4010 the The United Space Confederation and earth's governments agreed that as no sign of progress was seen in saving Earth from destruction, they would fund one final exploratory space flight in the hope of finding refuge on another planet.
History
The Document that Challenged History
Although Earth is for the most part accepting of all parts of people's identities, and has been for thousands of years, space travel remained one of the few industries to still rely on the binary gender system which hadn't been used elsewhere for many years. Charlie's employment was of historical significance as it legally recognised them as the first nonbinary space pilot. Some argue, that they shouldn't receive the title of 'First' as many nonbinary pilots existed before them but were not legally recognised. Either way, Charlie's employment highlighted the efforts made by the space industry to work towards becoming more inclusive of difference.Table of Contents
