BUILD YOUR OWN WORLD Like what you see? Become the Master of your own Universe!

Distinctly Unspooky Spooktober Challenge 2022

Here's the prompts. The ones not finished are marked with a NF
This also has become a place for neat little tidbits of lore, so that's nice.
  1. Portrait (NF)

2. Vanish
As refined as FTL travel has become over the 250 years since it first became reality, screwing with relativity is still risky business. Because of how the universe fixes itself, trying to interact with a shhip forming the bubble of "real-space" before travelling may or may not end up with one having the part touching it, or the person as a whole, just vanishing. Conditions vary, and are poorly understood, but their effects are not. Most FTL starship training programs and such teach how to avoid it, and larger ships have appropriate restrictions and warnings, among the various other pre-FTL checks and such.

3. Abandoned
War is not uncommon in human space. While most of it is comparatively small-scale and tame, that's not always the case. In one famous, in the region, example, the inhabitants of a habitat, Buinasie, in orbit of Mu-Ceus 245C-21d, or Nsia, in the system known astronomically as Mu-Ceus 245C-21 and to most people as Ibiesc. But on one day, in 2742, the habitat's population abandoned the habitat entirely. While the government of the habitat has stayed quiet about the cause, a common theory is a hijacking by aan outside actor. Whatever the case, it matter little to the people, as the Buinasie has since been resettled and is in full operation again.

6. Chasm
Upon the otherwise barren and flat surface of Desterat, there exists the Duis Rift. A large gash, roughly 41km long and 4.5 at deepest, this formation is not natural, as Desterat has never had water. Indeed, this gash, wound, even, was caused by weapons testing conducted a few decades after the The Omega-Delta Disaster, by the Dragon's Hoard cluster's fleets. It exposed many valuable raw materials inside it, ones that are very difficult to come by in the solar system, bolstering the systems's economy.

7. Thorn (NF)

8. Howl
One of the more prominent abilities of the Crown of the Sovereing is its ability to project blasts of various forms. Perhaps the most prominent of these is the "Roar of Anakrion", a blast of focused electromagnetic waves, tuned to a specific frequency to confuse and outright shut down sensors and interfere with the processes of Sapient Synthetics. It is accompanied by a very loud, focused shriek, to disorient opponents. If hit dead-on, a synthetic could even be knocked out for a moment.

9. Mirror (NF)

10. Broken (NF)

12. Slime (NF)

14. Ruin
Old Cellean space is littered with ruins and wreckage of all sorts of stuff, many centuries old, built even before the Cellean autocratic space arrived there. While many are nothing but simple housing areas or other commerce or simple industry, and many have been built over, there are still the rare few places with technology now-lost to the region's factions. An old antimatter manufacturing plant, for example, is a prized treasure worth many, many sacrifices, political or military. Of course, Cellean tech has been surpassed in many places, but it is still highly advanced in the region.

15. Mist (NF)

16. Whisper (NF)

17. Shadow (NF)

18. Spirit (NF)

19. Relic
While the technical advances of the Cellean empire have been surpassed long ago in the Core Worlds and similar regions, they remain prized in the regions the empire once dominated. The two Indomitable-class heavy cruisers of the Anakrionian Defense Fleet are no exception. Where the largest other ship of the fleet is around 430 meters long, the Indomitables are over 900m each. Their plasma cannons are remarkably powerful, and they can shrug off damage that would annihilate the rest of the fleet.

20. Unquiet (NF)

21. Shatter (NF)

22. Lock (NF)

23. Door
"Alright, Cuain, I'm awake. Mostly. Get me a cup of coffee ready while I head to the bridge, will you? Thanks." Walking down the corridor from the cryo-bay, Stringer made his way toward an elevator. Between there and where he was, there was a small door. Stringer pressed the button. Nothing. He pressed it again. Nothing. He tried the handle. Locked. "Oh damnit, door's stuck." After Stringer called for Cuain, the ship's integrated intellegence, the ever-present overseer responded. "Door stuck lmao".
...
"What the fuck does that mean?!"

24. Curse (NF)

25. Posess (NF)

29. Hunt
Run all you want, scum! You cannot run forever. One day or another, I, Rexilis Ileas, seventh King of Anakrion, will hunt you down wherever you may emerge. Your crimes against Torgallon have endangered the populace, and you will pay accordingly. Why flee from a straight duel, you cowards? Come here and face your deaths with dignity! Traitors and terrorists like you may not tread the soil and steel of Anakrion, much less the Capital. For the sake of your honour and whatever remaining shred of righteousness, turn youselves in, and face due punishment."
-Rexilis Ileas, getting a bit heated about a hydrogen pipeline explosion indirectly caused by Quaken and Skejon.

31. Drown
The frozen surface of Europa is largely barren. While the Europa Computing Solutions company controls it, its employees operate in orbit and the computer machinery is in the oceans under the ice. But this quietude isn't very permanent. Amidst the everpresent small debris and rock, barely impeded by the moon's thin atmosphere, there are also the less common large meteors. But on an otherwise normal day, there was an unexpected event. On the 31st of March, by standard time, in 2544, a ship was planning to enter the moon's orbit. This ship, an interstellar tradeship by the name Verti Kai e Proxima (eng. Verti, Emissary of Proxima), was seemingly seeking to trade with the company, and move on to the gas giant and the other moons later. However, the crew of the ship attempted to take control of the commanding habitat. The ECS had already set up defenses, but an interstellar tradeship is no easy target, and can deploy a frightening volume of fire, even with a small armament for its size. But the ECS prevailed, and the Verti was heavily damaged. In an effort to perhaps save themselves, the crew decided to crashland the ship onto the frozen moon below. Now, ships of that scale are not designed for planetary landings, but can survive them. The Verti, however, was too damaged to do so safely, and during descent, the ship's antimatter thrusters detonated, taking a large portion of the back of the ship with them. The ship could not turn around to bear it's front thrusters, and so plummeted to the surface, shattering the ice beneath. Around 40% of the ship remained largely intact, and that part fell down to the subsurface ocean, and promptly sank. It's still down there, to this day, and no effort has been made to repair it. The hole it made has also frozen over.
