Galgura Colosseum

Purpose / Function

The Galgura Colosseum, overlooking the desert and the sea in the coastal city of Rosen, is a living testament to the city's vibrant culture, its passion for bloodsports and entertainment, and its ability to seamlessly integrate nature and architectural excellence. Within its walls professional gladiators and reluctant slaves alike battle for glory, gold, and even their very freedom, and it remains a cherished symbol of Rosen's rich heritage and continues to captivate visitors from near and far.

Architecture

The Galgura Colosseum's exterior is a stunning blend of ancient and modern design elements. Its massive walls are crafted from a mixture of locally sourced sandstone and polished marble, which shimmer like the sunlit waves of the nearby sea. The facade features intricate carvings, decorative arches, and mosaic artworks that narrate the tales of Rosen's rich history and its reverence for entertainment and cultural events. Throughout the colosseum there are statues and carvings venerating Gorum.   Massive, arched entrances punctuate the colossal structure, inviting visitors to enter and indulge in its entertainment. These entrances are adorned with monumental sculptures and impressive bronze gates, which can be swung open to welcome the excited crowds. Above ground, the arena has an open design to allow for cooled seating on hot days with canvas coverings over the audience to provide shade and protection from the elements. The interior is a vast, circular arena with tiered seating that can accommodate thousands of spectators. The seating is designed for comfort, featuring plush, cushioned seats with an azure color scheme that mimics the nearby ocean.   The central arena floor is a marvel itself, made of smooth, white marble that shimmers like the sands of the desert during the day. The arena is surrounded by a labyrinth of underground passages, chambers, and tunnels that serve as holding areas for performers, gladiators, and exotic animals. Trapdoors are strategically placed for dramatic entrances and surprises during events. Additionally, prison cells and cages keep prisoners and animals alike at the ready for the arena's various bloodsports.
