Imprisoned in the Ashmedai Cult
General Summary
The party found themselves imprisoned by the Ashmedai Cult, having been betrayed by Ozymandias while in Estinople.
They awaken in a cramped cell, and with some effort were able to raise the bars of the entrance. Just as they did so, a number of cultists arrived and took them back into custody, escorting them to the Profanium (the most revered worship space). There, they were faced by two priests of Asmodeus, four cultists, and a high priestess named Fatima al-Ashmedai.
Fatima demanded Cipher's remains. Nak'Cue tossed the pouch on the floor in front of a great fire pit, at which point Fatima commanded the cultists to slay the party. A great battle broke out. At one point, one of the priests of Asmodeus retrieved the pouch of Cipher's remains, but Munnin deftly stole them back from him, mid-battle. In the end, Fatima hissed, "We will meet again" Then she invoked a spell and teleported away, leaving the remaining cultists to fend for themselves. They proved unequal to that task, and they died at the hands of the party.
Following the battle, the party searched Fatima's personal chambers and discovered, among some nice treasure, Fatima al-Ashmedai's Journal. The journal showed that she was angry at Cipher for (from her perspective) his betrayal of the Cult. She would resurrect his body to act as something she kept calling "the Vessel," but she would trap Cipher's soul in a Soul Cage for eternity.
As the party was reading this journal, Ozymandias arrived, saying, "Is she gone?" The party, understandably unhappy with his betrayal, gave him the business, but he explained that he had been using the Cult as a means to an end ever since Cipher had left. Upon learning of his death, Ozymandias had hoped to use Fatima to resurrect his friend, but learned of her plan to separate his soul from his body only after betraying his companions. He asked to be allowed to return to their company, to which the party grudgingly agreed.
The party found their way to the entrance of the Cult complex which was hidden in the sewer. From Ozymandias, they learned that the sewer opens up near the rear corner of the library on the grounds of the University. They made their way to the surface, and from there to an inn, where they rested for the night.
