Personal history
Jongho's childhood was rather simple. Born to a carpenter father and a mother who served in the ARN he spent much of his time running around his fathers workshop fetching tools and trying to copy what his father was doing. He was enrolled in school once he was old enough and enjoyed a simple education while learning from his father as well. While he never saw his mother that often the times they did spend together were full of love and joy.
When he was 10 his mother got a new station off Devil's Island and the family were able to move over there as well to stay close. Jongho still attended school, though it was much smaller on the small island, and hhis father set up another carpentry store where Jongho helped out when he had free time. He prefered to work on wood than his homework but made sure to always do his best at both so he didn't let either parent down.
To continue making his mother proud of him he agreed to return to Adelin and train at the naval academy at the age of 13. While there he once again applied himself to the work presented to him be it school work or physical training. He wrote home often and promised he would visit as soon as he could get leave, missing both of his parents while being away from them. He did a short trip on a ship once he was old enough only to be granted leave shortly after starting the trip to return to his father on Devil's Island.
By the time he made it back he was 15 years old and his father was almost too unwell to get out of bed. Jongho was granted extended leave to look after his father while he mother continued to work, though often staying closer to home. While his father was unwell Jongho took over the workshop, working under the guise of his father, as well as keeping up with homework and training with weapons. In the year that Jongho ran the workshop he found a passion for woodwork and decided that he wanted to follow after his father, so when he died Jongho just continued on working. He sent word to his mother but otherwise kept it rather quiet.
Once the ARN heard that his father was dead they revoked Jongho's leave and called him back to service with a letter stating that a ship would be coming by in a few weeks to collect him. Not wanting to return to military life, Jongho did the only thing he could think of. He collected what few things he could, wrote an apology to his mother and fled the island, buying passage on a merchant vessel to get him to Mist Moor figuring he could set up some thing there where he could aid the ship that came through and remain safe from the military.
His plan worked well for a while, he set up a small store where he could make simple things for people on the island and help with large repair jobs when ships came into port. It was another year or so before the naval influence began to push back against the pirate threat. At risk of being discovered and facing punishment for desertion at minimum, Jongho once again looked for a path off the island without really going against his morals. As if fate had shone on him a vessel came in looking for help with quick repairs before they left again. After discussions with the crew while he helped them, Jongho found them to be decent people with desires that he could get behind, plus the stories sounded interesting enough.
After aiding them with their repairs he asked if they were in need of aid out to sea, explaining that he was tired of life on the land and afraid of being trapped. He added that he wished to helped them with their goals, escape his past and explore the world. He wasn't really sure why they agreed but when they did so and he joined them he didn't question them. He travelled with them for a time before learning of the mark that most pirates had, with a few new crew picked up without any markings Jongho was asked if he wished to be marked along with them. Not wanting a brand but feeling a kinship with the pirates they settled on him getting the mark tattooed rather than the brand.
