Holmshir

Holmshir, "hill district," is a populous sprawl of wooden houses and buildings located on a green sloping hill that ascends to a range of low mountains on the Sownth Whitgalds. Boats are often seen on the calm ocean making there way to and from the capital city.  The town is home to lighthouses, churches, and markets, and the surrounding region has a fair amount of farmland.

Demographics

Majority human with a sizeable halfling minority, along with some gnomes and a few dwarves, elves, and tieflings.

Government

Mayor elected among business owners, from farmers to innkeepers and church clergy.

Defences

Coastal lookouts, monitoring traffic in and out, with the capability to deploy an intercepting ship in the case of an incoming pirate.

Industry & Trade

Holmshir is somewhat self-sustaining in terms of shops, along with its own population of dwarves that provide metallurgy, tieflings in the butcher shop, halflings in the bakeries, and gnomes lighting the streetlights.  Holmshir's main export is its agricultural yield, which it exports primarily to Hevedberg to sustain its large needs.

Infrastructure

Network of smaller roads, switchbacks up the hills and with a main strip of road and buildings along the coast at the base of the hills, including the three lighthouses, taverns, inns, pubs, and shops.

History

Human settlements were established during the Age of Man to take advantage of the region's fertile land and sloping hills.  Terraces were formed which turned into neighborhoods of houses aligned on the hills.

Architecture

Wooden cross-beam houses, each house having a somewhat ornamental and clean look (white plaster, dark wood, painted doors, and potted plants) since many houses are visible from the main road below due to the hill.

Geography

Gently sloping hill at first until it rises more steeply up to the Sownth Whitgalds.
