Port Orange

Port Orange is the main town of Meykan Ieg, located in the Balmygrove Orchardlands of Southeast Meyjakh, across from Minnet Hwell to the east. Port Orange is known for its long bay and orangewood buildings.  Although a part of Meyjakh Hwell, Port Orange's main trade partner is Hopton, followed by Briggeton for further export, mainly due to the town's proximity and angle to these two trade destinations.

History

Halflings were drawn to the Balmygrove Orchardlands due to their fertile soils and temperate climate, where they lived in small hamlets separated by vast orchards and groves.  Port Orange, originally named "Orangetown," served as a marketplace and gathering place for the isle's halflings, where they would celebrate harvests and holidays.  Humans began trade with Orangetown, and the demand for fresh fruits and vegetables grew in order to support (to a lesser extent) Thaet Hjemsteds and (to a larger extent) Minnet's Hopton, which was lacking fruit other than the occasional pineapples from Suthton.  Some humans established trade businesses and helped build up the town to what it is today, renaming it Port Orange after the construction of its updated port.  Humans' numbers increased, and today the isle is inhabited by a mutually beneficial mix of halflings and humans.  In more-recent years, some tieflings have also established residence with the creation of honey- and spice-making businesses utilizing the citrus' peels and flowers' honey.
