Amber Temple Lich
The Amber Temple Lich came as something of a surprise to the party. Having heard warnings of such creatures within the temple, when they first beheld the lich, they were fairly convinced they were all about to die. However, once it became clear that none of them were seeking to chase lichdom, immortality, or omnipotence, the lich was quite accommodating, doing its best to offer the party refreshments despite clearly not having had edible food around for many, many, many years.
The lich does not remember its name, though it does remember something of its origins: it was, long ago, one of the guardians of the Amber Temple when it still fulfilled its original purpose, to study, disempower, and to some extent contain the Dark Powers. However, the Dark Powers turned out to be, uh, too powerful, and the lich watched its companions fall to corruption one by one.
Presumably, given its current state of lichhood, it also fell to a certain level of corruption.
Now, it guards the temple along with Neferon and all other security features, trying to protect those driven to ruin from their own ambitions by any means necessary.
It assisted the party in researching various matters using its unfathomably extensive book collection, in particular advising them on how to bind a Dark Power. Hopefully, the information it provided will help the party defeat Strahd von Zarovich for good.
