John "Johnny" Mcullen

Born 2021 Father died during the explosion that destroyed the Arasaka Towers and the Corporate Plaza. Wasn’t long before the boosters and looters moved into the area and forced us out of our homes.
Well that’s what id like to remember.
I only remember dumpsters and shipping containers as a home. Educated on the streets as soon as I could walk. We joined the countless refugee’s in the tent city around the remains of Night City.
Time was hard. Mum sold our meagre possessions to keep us feed. We didn’t have a lot, mum had worked as a singer before The Bomb, a skill that wasn’t in great demand. She claimed to have had quiet the voice but didn’t have the heart for it anymore. But she still taught me the basics. (possibly a Johnny Silverhand love child)
It was sometime in 2030 she died. She had been trying to get me a present for my 8th birthday. A collection of Samurai albums. The deal went sideways. When she was found she still clutched the disk in her bloody hand. It’s the only thing I have to remember her.
I took off after that. There was nothing left for me in the tents. Id already learned enough to survive and with a few other brave souls moved back into the city in the old Combat Zones hoping to find rich pickings. Only found pain and the occasional death. The group slowly got smaller of the next year and finding no close connection to them moved from one group to another. During this time, I earned his handle – Johnny.

Most nights I’d spend time singing along to the old Samurai recording and found I did a very good Johnny Silverhand singing voice. News of this spread. And during the few quite time’s he’d entertain the crew he was running with at the time with a few old tracks. Around 2038 I scavenged an old guitar and amp and trade good for a few lessons from the old timers. Things were rough but stable enough to get together with a few other musicians (I don’t have friends) and form a band. After a lot of struggling to get going “Ronin” was hitting the worst dives in the combat zone doing Samurai covers. We did pretty well Early 2040 we were approached by Cynthia Arrochar, a small time exec for DMS. Apparently she’d heard a tape from a gig and wanted to give us a shot at the big time. Things were a blur. A few months in a proper studio away from Night City. A tour of a few towns doing small time gigs as opening acts. The interest in the old Johnny Silverhand and Samurai never went away. It never fades away. Pressure started to mount to change the band. Kick the drummer for a Bes Isis look alike, get a cyberarm. Storm a corporate office. So, there we were in the LA Megaplex opening for Cassie Glass. We got a bit too loaded on god knows what after the show when it seemed recreate the storming of the Arasaka towers in 2013. Well there was no Arasaka property in LA so we settle for the steps of Mayors office. I have no recollection of the crap I shouted about the Mayor but it hit a chord with the crowd.
50 arrests, 3 dead, tens of thousands of Eurobucks in damage and us getting a quick escort out of the state. Sales went up after that.
After a few weeks back in Night City we came across a rival band. Another Samurai cover band who had started to tear up the charts. Lots of Bio work and backed by Net 54. Old rivalries also never fade. They were good. Looked the part, acted the part but sounded shit, with shit name, Seppuku. It didn’t take long before we clashed heads. Night city wasn’t big enough for two cover bands. And Cynthia realised that. We were good but they had a bigger backing. Our time was going to run out. So Cynthia sold us out. Gave our location to a group of Net54 goons who came by and shot us up. I don’t know how I crawled so far or how I ended up in Doc ?????. (will) Our Trauma Team cards had inexplicably expired.
Again our sales went up but some clause in my contract meant I got nothing without the rest of the band alive. Heard a rumour that Cynthia moved to Net54 last year. Seppuku won a legal battle to take the name Ronin. Doesn’t bother me too much now. I’m still a better Johnny Silverhand than their singer can ever be. However, he knows it and would like me out of the way. I don’t have a band at the moment but if I can get one up and running, I’m going to take them down.
