The Changer

The Changer is a secretive god, constantly flipping between male and female, their appearance ever-changing, and with the ability to become anyone within an instant. They cultivate an air of mystery deliberately, and are worshipped by thieves, spies and illusionists because of this. Temples of the Changer are frequently attached to thieves' guilds. Priests of the Changer wear smooth, featureless porcelain masks which can be removed swiftly, allowing them to become anyone.   The god of secrets and deceit weaves a complicated web of schemes through their worshippers, but favours no group over another. A group of Pyrian paladins hunting down members of a Rawhn cult may find themselves aided by agents of the Changer one day, and obstructed the next.   Alignment. The Changer is Chaotic Neutral, but is worshipped by beings of different alignments. Those of a Lawful bent are never countenanced, however.   Aspects. The Changer is many things to many people, worshipped in different forms and different aspects by the peoples of the Sundered Lands. To the dwarves, the Changer is known as Gingold, Lord of Fortune. Representing the ability to both win and lose fortunes in an instant, as well as the capriciousness of luck, Gingold is well-known amongst dwarvenkind. Although Gingold's worshippers are not numerous, most dwarven mines have at least a small shrine to request their favour. Gingold is also known as the God of Buried Secrets, both in terms of buried veins of precious metals and gems, and hidden knowledge.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Depiction. No two portrayals of the Changer are ever alike. The only symbols which are close to consistent are a smooth porcelain mask, and an eye with a whirling multi-coloured spiral for the pupil. Portraits and sculptures of the Changer, though few and far between, are most often of a slim, androgynous form concealed within muffling robes and scarves.

Tenets of Faith

COMMANDMENTS OF THE CHANGER
  • All things must change. Chance and luck are the enemies of fate.
  • The truth can only be protected by a bodyguard of lies. Protect your secrets, and find out those of others.
  • Misdirection, illusion, and deceit are more powerful than direct conflict.

Holidays

Every temple of the Changer honours a different holy day, keeping it secret from all who are not a member of that temple's congregation. The celebrations commonly include whispering a secret into the ear of the high priest, or bringing chaos to a carefully ordered plan.
