Episode 04: Rescue the Wizard

Phaze asks for the party's help to go check on his mentor, Loradon the Wizard. They teleport to Dorwin, and travel to the Tower. Once there, things are not as they expected.

Themes

Tower cloaked in darkness, everburning torches are burnt out. Scorch marks mar the walls, and belongings are scattered or charred.

Structure

Exposition

Phaze asks the party to help him go and check on his mentor. He has not heard from him since the Infernos began attacking.
Phaze needs his mentor to cast a spell on him.

He is hearing the voices from the Book of the Shadow again.

He knows how to get a teleportation circle to send them to the Isle of Dorwin, where his mentor, Loradon the Wizard, has a tower near the village of Stilton.

Conflict

When arriving at Stilton, the party finds that there have been several incidences of buildings being set ablaze. At first, they believe that it is the work of more Burning Men, but they quickly realize that there are a number of uncontrolled Fire Elementals roaming around, setting things ablaze. It quickly becomes aparent that they are coming from the Wizard's Tower.

Rising Action

Wizard's Tower

The party enters the tower by the storage entrance behind the tower. Searching through the tower, they encounter 4 magmin in the central fire of the meeting hall.

Climax

The party enters the portal room, and discovers an open portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. In the center of the room is a Fire Elemental. Loradon the Wizard is sitting in his throne-like chair, his eyes turned to glowing embers as he stares into the fire portal.
The Fire Elemental summons 2 Magmin through the portal and combat begins.

Sylvanis calls Phaze's attention to a book entitled, "On portals, by Loradon", with a section labeled, "Portals, and how to shut them."
It takes 3 turns of Phaze casting to close the portal.
A second Fire Elemental comes through the portal after the first is destroyed.

Phaze closes the portal, cutting the second Fire Elemental in half.
Loradon the Wizard says to Phaze, speaking with the voice that eminates from his Book of the Shadow, "It would have been so much easier, this way." before slumping over dead.

Falling Action

Phaze contacts the Thellos Mageocracy and gives them posession of the tower. In return, they give him a boon, to be redeemed at a later date.
Phaze reads his masters book, Misbehaven and Jedrek relax and recover.
Katherine goes skinny dipping in the lake, along with Sylvanis. They encounter a female human hunter who is enamored with Katherine, and they have a 2 day love fest.

Resolution

Back in Baramore, Katherine gets a visitor, sent in by Jeaves, Jedrek's butler.
It is a female Elven cleric, her sister. As she enters the room, she looks over the party. She sees Mist Behavin and says, "A drow?!" in confusion, speaking in elven, before dropping to the floor.
