Daughters of Artemis

Structure

[ Aegis Titan ] -> Head of the Daughters of Artemis, promoted from the ranks of the Shieldbearers or Archivist-Queens   [ Shieldbearers ] -> the five highest-ranking soldiers in the DoA; promoted for loyalty and potential. Each of them is considered to be capable of deep-impact action on their own, and their opinions and orders can only be overruled by the Aegis Titan herself.   [ Archivist-Queens ] -> the three heads of Knowledge Retention; the Archivist-Queens are responsible for maintaining the DoA's vast historical volumes. Each of them is essentially a walking, talking library on her own.   Within the DoA, there are numerous "Shards" -- groups that recruits are pushed into once they graduate training.   Examples include:

The Firebugs, an unofficial designation for those Daughters in charge of heavy weaponry and experimental technology.
The Eta corps, a quiet black-science 'shard' of the DoA which focuses on augmenting humankind heavily and subsuming the human form with something greater. Some of the most horrendous atrocities of the Scarle Cluster can be attributed to the Eta Corps' actions. In particular, their creation of "Augmented Weapons"-- in reality, humans who have been so vastly changed that they no longer resemble people in many ways.

Culture

Militaristic, of course.

The Daughters of Artemis is an organization that is by and large ruled by fear, brutality, and money. Trillions of Marks go to keeping the wheels turning; to the outside, the DoA is an honorable military corps, a noble sort of hirable armed force who will do anything within reason for a paycheck -- but not everything, of course! But inside, corruption and a culture of keeping your head down rule the day for anyone who finds themselves in the middle ranks of the organization.

Low ranking footsoldiers, scientists, and other individuals? They think it's all fine (unless you're a janitor who works in one of the Eta Blacksites, or somewhere even worse) because they don't know what it's like when you're higher up in the food chain. They can be surly, yeah, but most of them are fine with the life they live to some degree, because they're deliberately kept ignorant.

Foreign Relations

The Daughters of Artemis maintain neutral relations as an official rule.

Judicial Body
The Aegis Titan, ostensibly, is the final say on legal matters. In action, very few (if any) matters ever reach her. Instead, affairs are settled at lower levels of the organization. If an Omnicron soldier's implant malfunctions and this results in casualties, the trace-number of said implant is followed and that 'Gearhead' group is brought before a military tribunal.   That's just one example.   The attitude within the DoA regarding judicial work is vastly different from the higher ranks to the lower ranks. Footsoldiers, mechanics, and firebombers -- hackers, janitors, you name it -- would much rather settle things one on one, and so there is a general attitude of don't escalate up the chain in the lower ranks. Of course, the Commanders and Captains and Squad-Leaders and Scout-Bosses are more than aware of this attitude... and it's more than alright with them, because it lets them get away with their little corruptions.   When the actual Judges come around -- the individuals with official Titan Seals and implants that help them track blood traces in the environment-- everyone tends to really get their act together, because the Judge Corps are notoriously brutal, and you tend to not graduate if you're not capable of really dealing out the punishment that Judges do.
