Bendahan's Syndrome

Most superpowers tend to be fairly well adapted to the body of the person using them. For example the genes responsible for superstrength also generate muscle tissue and organs to support this, or a telepath's brain leading to different levels of activity in different lobes than your average human.   There are a few superpowers that, while typically stable, can occasionally result in an unstable mutation that can threaten the health of the Enhanced or those around them. One of these is pyrokinesis, and Bendahan's Syndrome is the name of what can happen.

A Fever

Most pyrokinetics, whether the kind who holds fire in their hands or can set their whole bodies on fire, have some form of temperature control for themselves. They tend to be resistant to burns, and avoid a lot of the unpleasantness that comes with heatstroke. The rare few who can't have a lot of problems.   Named for one of the first people to figure out it was a degenerative genetic disease and not just something to deal with, Bendahan's Syndrome is when the pyrokinetic essentially can no longer control their body temperature to the degree required.   It's more lethal in those who cover themselves in fire, but even those who simply manipulate it begin to see problems quickly. It starts as a simple low grade fever, coupled with unusual bouts of sweating. It progresses from there into something that resembles the onset of heatstroke, and while hydrating does do some good, it doesn't do much more than temporarily ameliorate the symptoms.   Eventually, if left untreated, further use of one's powers will result in frying their own organs from the inside out. Before this step, there's usually a subconscious attempt to rid onself of heat by expelling it. The resulting blasts have killed bystanders, and can be completely unpredictable.   There are treatments. No one wants someone who controls fire to suddenly lose control.
