Double January: Day 15 - Eerie

(See Author's Note: Double January for further details)

January 15th - Take 1

It's actually quite easy to inflict superstitions on scientists. You just have to be very specialized about it. They're not going to fall for something that's a basic prank. You have to make sure that you appeal to that particular thing they don't quite know as well, and so are going to believe something is fundamentally wrong with the world once it starts going wonky. You don't hack into the computer expert's laptop, because they know how to handle that. You use magnets to make their chair move of its own accord. Things like that.   This day, I had my entrance (keycard, guard patterns), and I had my plan of attack (map of the place, storage containers that were easily transportable). While I still lacked a proper exit strategy that would get me away undetected, I did have ways to leave things around the homes of the scientists to leave them just a little disconcerted. Just a few eerie things that didn't fit, so they'd be on edge and more inclined to dismiss things due to superstitious fear if anything was discovered awry.

January 15th - Take 2

So maybe my tactics in the past resembled what I was now doing to myself, and my strategy was not terribly original. Oh well. I was eight. I've never claimed to be particularly original.   Amidst my watching and preparation for the coming big day, I was struck by the eerie sense of what I was doing. I was, in a lot of ways, a ghost. Every action I did put my own existence at risk, and if I had misjudged the scenario then I would be dooming myself to some kind of half life or removal from existence. Time travel was, while quite entertaining, a bit too risky for my tastes.   After this incident, I resolved to put time travel into the rare category of things I wouldn't research anymore. Remain aware of it, of course, but not to look into it.   Evelyn agreed. Right. I forgot to mention her, haven't I. She's been here the whole time, tagging along as my very best minion.
