Eagle Mountain High School away from eating the burger on the school cafeteria menu. To be fair, everyone warns everyone else away from ordering a burger, and she would look like a massive jerk if she was the one to allow some poor soul to eat the burger.
An Odd Beginning
To start, you have to order the burger individually, which is already weird. There's a little menu of a few menu items that are perhaps gluten free or vegan, so that those with food sensitivities can specifically get something safe. The burger is on that menu. There is no reason for this as it is specifically marked as non-vegan and chock full of gluten, and lactose, and even has a mark indicating it has the potential to contain peanuts.
Disaster Struck
The origin of the tale was probably some issues with food poisoning, but by now it's become somewhat more varied and creative. One of the basic ones is that someone almost died because of some superpowered reaction. Somehow the burger was a signal to some supervillain out there and the burger got them thrown into an evil organization and they were forced to fight for their lives.
Another variation on this particular theme was that the principal was using it to weed out the weaklings and thus had the lunch ladies put toxins in the buns.
Another theory is something like Alice in Wonderland, where the food gave you temporary superpowers and so you didn't want to eat it unless you wanted to risk being taken away by a shady organization.
