Depavata

The Pasapa River and the surrounding jungle has been home to people for as long as there has been people, as far as historians can tell. The river gives life and the area is bountiful of food, both animals and plants.   The first records of the place being called Depavata goes back almost two thousand years. During this time the actual borders of the country, as well as ruling system and the like has obviously changed a lot, but the people here take great pride in being part of the oldest country known.

History

In the earliest records of Depavata it is the name for the area ranging from the mouth of the Pasapa river up to where the capital is today. The area was ruled by a king or queen called Kiran Sursa, the only mention of this person, and is the first mention of anything resembling a real kingdom.   From here the kingdom grew and shrunk several times. The history of Depavata is ripe with wars, both with outside forces and within itself. Around 1300 years ago the first mentions of what is today Axarsú to the east appears and from then on the two have been fighting more wars than is easy to keep track of.   Around four hundred years ago Depavata for the first time stretched for most of the Pasapa river. It is here the city of Taranaphul became the capital and the current queen moved there and started building her castle.   Around this time Depavata was really starting to cement its place as the trading hub of the south, only really challenged in this by Axarsú. But Depavata had access to Kaeeche and its mines, and this meant Axarsú had to trade with them if they wanted easy access to the metals and minerals from here.   This was however not preferable and in the following hundred and fifty years or so Axarsú and Depavata started a new kind of war, who could build the best ships and start taking control over the seas and the trade routes here.

Political system

Depavata is nowadays a direct democracy, more or less. Each town or city has a council where people can turn with their problems and this council arranges elections and votes when needed. This council works as a regular occupation though, where people can apply when a job opens up. If the people are unhappy with the council they can demand a vote to disband the council and to get new people hired. The council however are supposed to work for the people.   In reality the system is very complex, with lots of levels of management within the councils, and they are all connected throughout the country in a system to try and ensure that the people and the country is taken care of.   Since the creation of the Southern Union almost all matters regarding international affairs and trade has been passed on to them, something a lot of Depavatans are upset about since this means they don't have the same direct influence over this anymore.
