Gravenguard
Gravenguard is a cog on Mechanus that contains the largest cyborg-controlled city on the plane. Gravenguard City (largely abbreviated as Gravenguard) is fully enclosed by a rounded perimeter of walls at the center of the cog.
History
Gravenguard was originally an empty gallamantium cog that was founded upon by dwarven settlers in 13910: Thatthil A.Dw., soon after the dwarven connection cycle. Given the cogs proximity to several Automata-designated cogs and vast sources of special materials, the goal of the sovereign settlement was to establish a cybernetics research station while acting as a trade post between Fimmsefar and more distant settlements. Several research groups were involved during its foundation, but Synthetic Connections were ultimately the most successful with production and commercialization of cybernetics, leading to their monopoly over Gravenguard's primary industry.
By 14632 A.Dw., the research and practice of cybernetics was banned by the United Defense Force and all cyborgs were outlawed. This soon led to a brief war between the UDF and Gravenguard where the city was invaded and several factories were destroyed. The UDF seemed to have an advantage against the then-rudimentary cybernetic weaponry, however a secret meeting between the factions' respective leaders resulted in the UDF's immediate retreat. Gravenguard has since constructed a perimeter of void-bordering walls around the entire city.
Nowadays, Gravenguard is the leading source of all cybernetics within Mechanus. Dozens of companies involved with cybernetics are established within the city, but they are all under contract with Synthetic Connections.
Leadership
Synthetic Connections
Main article: Synthetic ConnectionsGravenguard is entirely ruled over by Synthetic Connections, a producer of wholesale and retail cybernetics. They establish the city laws, own the city security who enforce the laws, and they enact judgement upon any company or person who breaks the law. They also maintain a set of covenants that define some restrictions and obligations upon the company itself, however their ultimate authority, the SynCon Executives, may adjust these covenants at any time.
SynCon Partners
Several other companies within Gravenguard are partnered with SynCon, which allows them to define their own set of bylaws under SynCon's enforcement and judicial authority. This is especially common in the residential and educational industries.
Gravenguard Resident Security
Gravenguard's laws and bylaws are strictly enforced by Gravenguard Resident Security (GRS), a SynCon subsidiary.
