Mechanus
Mechanus is an outer plane representing the alignment of law and perfect order and is home of the Automatas. While its existence is a fact, very little information on the plane has been obtained by the people of Sylvania.
Description
Mechanus is constructed entirely of gallamantium in the form of colossal gears all rotating together with an endless cycle. These flat cogs, some hundreds of miles in diameter, serve as the plane's only form of solid "ground" and hold up its many massive cities. The architecture is primarily gallamantium and other metals built into tall, narrow structures, which are often connected through a network of pipes.
Gravity is similar to the material plane, though it is normalized within the vicinity of each gear. Despite that, levitation and flight is a common occurrence within Mechanus. Walkways, artificial sources of both light and darkness, and a few buildings are suspended in mid air, yet they remain anchored to the rotation of the local cog.
Planar Properties
This list includes notable properties that are unique to Mechanus.
- The plane lacks any form of air, yet creatures who normally require air can still breathe just fine.
- Creatures with Intelligence 4 or higher know the exact time while on Mechanus.
- During daytime quarters, bright light emanates from all points in space, and natural shadows do not exist.
The Void and The Winds
The empty space between Mechanus's gears and their gravitational influence is a perilous region known as the Void.
Universal Laws
Since the creation of Mechanus, The Prime has defined several laws which are enforced throughout the entire plane. These are known as the Universal Laws. The enforcement of these laws are so strict, that a powerful planar magic makes them nearly impossible for any creature to break.
The sections below describe the revealed Universal Laws, in no particular order.
Perceptions are true.
Everything that is perceived is guaranteed to truly exist. Conversely, everything that exists can be perceived naturally.
Implications- Spells with the Illusion school of magic should fail.
- Spells and other magic which create an illusory effect should fail to do so.
Winds are immutable.
The course of gravity and the winds remain unimpeded.
Implications- Spells and other magic which directly control environmental gravity should fail to do so.
- Spells and other magic which create wind should fail to do so.
Arcana is well-defined
Spells can only be casted if do so deliberately.
Implications- Wild magic does not exist.
The Machine is perfect
The gears of Mechanus maintain their kinetic properties.
Civilization
The primary denizens of Mechanus, the Automatas, are mostly composed of Modrons, who are devoted to the construction and maintenance of the plane. These creatures dutifully follow the alien wishes of Primus.
Some creatures from Sylvania have also made this place their home. elves and dwarves have established cities upon the cogs of Mechanus.
History
All information regarding the plane of Mechanus was obtained by the dwarves during the early 13900's A.Dw. during their research into the Echo Experiment. In particular, the info was through conversations with several friendly automatas. As of year 13902 A.Dw., Grunmorok Merryspine was the only known Sylvanian person to travel to Mechanus and return, though his accounts are questionable. Several other dwarves of that period chose to travel to the plane, but it is unknown when or if they ever returned.
Preluding the Bastiynia-Metalloid Crisis in early 855 A.Hu., Agent Rilitar Glyntoris of Republic of Bastiynia's Department of Discovery explored an echo station within the Inferno Peaks. Given what was described about Glyntoris's discovery, along with the timing of the endeavor, it is possible that the agent had traveled to Mechanus.
