Description

Depictions

Concifere is often depicted as a stoic, bearded man wearing a robe made of scrolls. He holds a staff topped with a burning piece of parchment. Usually, he wears a blindfold, but in some interpretations, he is shown with hollow eyes glowing with madness.

Personality

Concifere is patient and wise, but endlessly curious. He is always seeking to expand his understanding, but knows the dangers of unbridled pursuit, and bears the scars of his overreach. In between horrifying fits of celestial insanity, he teaches that the pursuit of knowledge is as much about understanding one’s ignorance as it is about acquiring truths.

Worship

Symbols

Concifere’s symbol is a quill enveloped in chains, representing the binding commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and the constraints one must impose upon oneself. The chains may also symbolize the madness that can bind those who delve too deeply.

Followers

Concifere is commonly worshipped by scholars, historians, and teachers. Some seek universal truths. Others covet the power knowledge brings. A few - are driven by simple curiosity.

Philosophies

Followers believe that to truly understand the world, one must embrace the inherent chaos of existence. They tread the fine line between genius and insanity, but even when a follower's mind falls apart, they view it as a form of enlightenment, rather than a hinderance. “True knowledge is the highest virtue, and madness the inevitable consequence.”

Rituals

Dissolution of Truth

In this ritual, worshippers gather and read aloud from the Fractured Codices; ancient, cryptic texts said to have been written by Concifere’s greatest as they fell to madness. The passages are repeated again and again until they lose all meaning.   Worshippers say this ritual pushes the mind to the edge of understanding, and allows them to experience the slip from clarity to insanity first-hand. It is said that followers come closer to Concifere’s own experience of divine madness with each Dissolution.

Burning of Secrets

Once per year, worshippers inscribe their most hidden thoughts, fears, or truths onto pieces of parchment. These secrets are written in silence, and no one else is allowed to see what others have written. These pieces of parchment are then cast into a flame, submitting them to Concifere for safekeeping.

History and Myth

In his quest for ultimate knowledge, Concifere sought to understand the innerworkings of the universe. He peeled back the layers of existence, succeeded for a fraction of a moment, and glimpsed the The Omnificus. He saw beings of unimaginable power who shape the very fabric of the universe. The sight of these primordial entities shattered Concifere’s sanity, blinding him, and leaving him in a state of awe, and fear, for centuries.

Relationships

Concifere’s relationships with other gods are complex and often strained. He has a mutual respect for Paewr, as both value the preservation of knowledge. Conversely, Concifere harbors a deep-seated animosity towards Isesen, and his propensity towards deceiving his own followers rather than guiding them.   Some other gods respect Concifere, and come to him when they have questions of lore, but some are wary of his madness, and do their best to avoid him entirely.
