Verigas

Verigas

A capable and ambitious wizard who ventured out to the Academy of Ipsola for training, only to find that there's a high cost that comes with knowledge.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Verigas grew up in a small enclave of elvish society on the verge of the Intransican Empire. A keen and curious mind, the young elf was an eager reader. He showed the necessary aptitute of learning magic, and quickly moved to become a wizard. His understanding and capabilities quickly exceeded what his fellow elves were able to instruct him with, and so he left home in search of a greater body of learning. He heard of the immense library at the Academy of Ipsola; an immense archive of books and documents that contain even First Age texts, and braved the harsh deserts to make his way there.

Upon arriving there and earning the necessary coin, he discovered that the Academy was far from the glamorous academic center he had hoped and envisioned. Finding the academy was rife with corruption and ineptitude, he's partnered with a member of the faculty who wants to take the leadership down from the inside.
Hopefully, they don't take the building down at the same time...

Sexuality

Verigas regards sexuality, including his own, as an annoying distraction. It's an itch that needs to be scratched before focusing on something more important. Never having been in a prolonged romantic relationship may explain his view.
Still being in his youth, for an elf, Verigas still finds himself feeling the need to scratch that itch often, but it's an itch he's gotten good at ignoring, until lately.
When he does have to scratch the itch, Verigas quickly dispels the common appearance of a stoic, quiet, respectful elf, and reveals himself to be quiet the little pervert. He has no qualms of sleeping with prostitutes, or otherwise paying for sex. His tastes revolve around women with large chests and butts, put on revealing attire and tantalizing make-up, and who don't appear to have anything redeeming about them beyond their ability to satisfy men.
It is no surprise than that Verigas has never been in a relationship and doesn't desire one. To engage in one would require engaging with a woman as an equal.

Education

Verigas' magical education is currently behind his intellectual capabilities, or so he believes. He is well read and has a firm grasp on fundamentals, but until reaching Ipsola, lacked access to greater magical knowledge. He has a ravenous hunger for more, both written and from in-person instruction that he has lacked so far. He has yet to find or declare any sort of magical specialization, as most wizards are prone to do, and it seems unlikely that he will do so anytime soon, as such ideas tend to leave other aspects out of mind, and Verigas wishes to learn as much as he can, at least on the fundamentals.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Verigas spent a brief time as a gladiator combatant in order to be able to prove his capabilities and pay his entry into the Academy of Ipsola. He had no dreams of becoming a celebrity combatant, and looks on the affair as yet another means to an end.

Intellectual Characteristics

Although Verigas subscribes that learning is itss own reward, his auto-didactic goals are focused towards what he believes will serve towards his other goal, to become a famous wizard, either for uncovering great secrets or for defeating enemies. As such, his learning will continue to push towards the far edges of magical understanding, and may lead him to miss fundamental understandings of different schools, despite his desires to the contrary.

Morality & Philosophy

Despite Verigas' desires to be a good person and claims of such, his moral compass lacks empathy, leading him to appear selfish and calloused. His ideas of right and wrong do not differ greatly from most of society, but isn't particularly concerned with correcting the wrongs of the world, unless they affect him personally. His moral code also becomes very pliable when doing the wrong thing enables him to further his goals. Like most young men, even most elves, Verigas is not conciously aware of this behavior and may even deny it if bluntly accused.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Verigas wants to be the greatest wizard in history, or the closest he can possibly get to be the top of the list. He is not interested in worldwide fame, recognizing that most of the world knows so little about magic that they couldn't even begin to have a conversation of who the greatest is. Instead, he would be content that if the future historians and scholars of magic look on him with the reverance and awe that he looks upon the great wizards of the First and Second Age

Virtues & Personality perks

Verigas is a tenacious, borderline stubborn elf. Once he has set his mind on a course of action, there is very little that can deter him.

Vices & Personality flaws

His dedication to learning and discovering as much as he can about magic has created a signficant flaw in his personality, in that he can be very easily manipulated.
Because he was largely self taught in the schools of magic before arriving in Ipsola to study, and even been a successful gladiator through his magic, he has become arrogant. He views himself not just as more skilled or knoweldgeable than people who have no magical aptitute, but a better person overall. He is also judgemental, comparing his skill and accomplishments to that of others. Though he keeps his opinions quiet, he is extremely dismissive of those who he believes were given their power, authority, or otherwise did not earn what they have.

Wealth & Financial state

Verigas has little wealth beyond the goods and items he carries with him. He had to fight in the gladiatoral arena in order to fund his education at the academy of Ipsola, a deed which caused the faculty to look down him all the more as a fame seeker or glory hound.
