The Attrition War of the Tri-Nation
Who was part of the conflict?
For centuries, the three big nations, the lizardfolk, the bugbears, and the ogres, fought against each other. The conflict was long and consuming, and as the centuries passed, the battles were less frequent and smaller in size and scale. Almost as if the parties were fighting for the sake of fighting. Even the war's name earned its title of the nations wearing down each other. When the lupians arrived after the Rending, they brought a new intensity to the war. The savagery and cold, calculated minds of their ancestors are shown through their battles. The lizardfolk also wanted to use the Degraded in the latter part of the war, but this blew back heavily on them when the Degraded rebelled against their slavers.
What was the war fought for?
At that time, nobody knew. It probably started with a blood feud or someone disrespecting somebody else, but the true origin was lost in the past. The war was even more baffling to newcomers because the three nations, lizardfolk, bugbears, and ogres, lived separately and preferred different living conditions. Ogres the rocky hills bugbears the bushy forests, and the lizardfolk the marshes. The lupians had the only acceptable reason because they were new and wanted their own place.
The end of the war
The Dominion of the Hobgoblin brought an end to the war. When the Dominion learned about the new continent, Muaclun, it arrived with force and enforced its will upon the region, making the lizardfolk, bugbears, and ogres part of the Dominion. According to gossip, the Dominion didn't do this for the love of peace, but it saw new subjects who could pay taxes, making the Dominion richer.
Outcomes of peace
After the charter was signed, the intensity and frequency of the battles decreased further. Going forward, there were only a few skirmishes yearly, which was peace to these war-loving people. Being part of the Dominion also brought new possibilities to the region, but the lizardfolk enjoyed this gain mostly. And while the lupians signed the charter, they didn't become part of the Dominion. What they wanted, their place, was already theirs. They were happy with it, and it was enough for them to hunt all day long if they wanted to.
When I arrived in Muaclun, there was already peace. As much as you can call the continuous enmity peace
