Masuqar (Mah-soo-Kahr)

Commonly found living among the peaks and forested valleys of the mountainous lands of Dranya, the Masuqar (also known as "Scalehawks") are a race of small, bird-like species of dragonkin. Having existed alongside the Drakai since their early tribal days, the Masuqar continue to play an important role in their society, particularly among the Athrani people.

The Masuqar have a hawk-like body with various draconic traits, with taloned feet, long tail feathers, a pointed snout, feathered dragon-like wings, and a scaled body with feathers along their back and neck.

Masuqar are most commonly found living in mountainous areas, favouring areas with high elevation where they can build their nests, such as tree canopies or cliffside ledges.

Domestication

Since the early tribal days of the Drakai the Masuqar has been domesticated for use as a hunting companion, typically used to catch smaller game from above. While Drakai society has greatly advanced in the centuries since, this practice still remains, with the Drakai of the Athrani cultural group in particular maintaining the tradition of breeding and training Masuqar for use in their hunts, and even a few mombers of the Drakai nobility have been known to keep more domestic breeds of Masuqar as exotic pets.

Facial characteristics

Masuqar have Dragon-like heads, though they lack horns, instead having a crest of feathers along the top of their head running down along their neck, and their snouts are more pointed, almost "beak-like" in shape.
