Peme - The Firebreather

Born in the lush jungles of Reloi, the fiery Peme ("pay-may") grew up in a small Akkaahana village, largely cut off from the more developed areas of the island nation. Her people have a long-standing tradition of fire-dancing, a craft Peme's father was a master of. At a young age, she was fascinated by the mesmerizing dance of flames her father commanded, and learned to respect and love the fire as a part of her heritage.


Life wasn't easy in Reloi: her family made only a meager living through fishing, and by performing fire-dancing for the occasional Luziama tourists who found their way to the village. Wanting a better life for his only child, Peme's father pushed her to hone her skills, in hopes that she could leverage her talent to escape the limited prospects of village life. When Peme was 16, a traveling merchant arrived in the village, regaling the locals with tales of grandeur and fortune from across the seas in Draksineon. He watched as Peme's father performed the fire-dance, and suggested she could earn good coin by performing in the bustling city streets and fairs of the mainland. Captivated by the prospect of an adventure, and the potential to better her family's circumstances, Peme left Reloi and began her journey.
Her first few years away from home were difficult, the cold winters and harsh realities of life in a foreign land far from the paradise she'd been promised. Peme would perform on the streets for passersby, her fire-dancing was a novelty that earned her just enough to scrape by. She had to learn quickly, to adapt and survive in a world very different from her home. Though her fortunes turned one fateful evening when she was spotted by Gheronos Fain, in the city scouting for new talent for his troupe, The Maudlins. Impressed by Peme's unique performance and fiery spirit, he offered her a place in the troupe. Joining the Maudlins gave Peme the stability she needed and allowed her to refine her skills further. Her performance evolved into a daring display, making her one of the most anticipated acts of the troupe.
Despite her successes, Peme remains rooted in her heritage, her act a tribute to the fire-dances of her home. She dreams of one day returning to Reloi, to share the stories and experiences she's gathered over the years.
