S01E02 - The Owlbear and the Maiden Fair

General Summary

Toki and Kamose have dragged their rusted 'dead' Clanker to the Wretched Nutmeg, hoping to have a place that will protect this odd artifact of old Carda. Bothered about the find by some of Ridley's soldiers and the proprietor of Calaga's General Goods exiting the Nutmeg, who made an offer on the spot with a perpetual discount at the general store for the thing. Turning him down with the promise to consider the offer, he gives warning that there's a lot of rough residents in Prospect accustomed to deals at the end of the knife, they entered the Nutmeg and secured a room from Donner Peale, who gives new arrivals a free bowl of stew, and his rooms come with a free dinner each night for his boarders. Rooms are 1 aurin per day, he's got 6 of 8 rooms available, and are bade to prepay for a week at a time. They do so and after eating head to room #2. In the room, Kamose's curiosity gets him to poke about in the thing, cleaning up some debris and removing the magical cogitator, it's personality, for safekeeping. Opening the window to toss some swamp water and plant detritus out of the room, they hear and then spot a young gnomish woman weeping outside on a bench. Heading out the room, Donner mentions the opportunity to help Propsect by hunting an aquatic creature that is preying on fisherman and their hauls that is colloquially called 'Big Mouth'. Toki and Kamose leave the inn, with the intent to find a couple of the other travelers to get their agreement to help with the Owlbear. On a whim, Kamose decides to check in on the gnome. She's reticent, but shares that her name is Jelibye Grannoa and with her brother and mother's recent deaths, she decided to come to Prospect to locate their family estate in Carda to record her family's names in the lineage book. However her map to the estate and all her worldly possessions have been stolen just today near tent town and she's despondent. They offer to help her, surprising her and after a series of questions to understand better what took place, they set off towards the scene of the crime adjacent to Tent-town. There, they find her Mother's jacket button and track down the assailants based on Jelibye's recognition and the paid help of a nearby cobbler, Hogrum Humbletrapper, who has observed the thugs before. There are three of them and they're often in Tent-town. Happening upon Burt getting fleeced by a Dwarf running a shell game, Basok Gitgurrak, Kamose gets some info about the thieves after being wise to the 'Ghal Pelor Shuffle'. They came in and specifically their names and where they hang out, Javeon, the boss, Skrollin and Ralph are toughs that pick on people walking by themselves and live high on the hog from it. Recruiting Burt and arming Jelibye with a dagger, they head to Javeon's tent where they're presently cooking dinner. After cracking Skrollin in the face with Kamose's staff, a brawl ensues, ending in the three of the theives' unconscious on the dirt while Tent-town calmly continues around the scene. In their possessions, they find everything Jelibye was missing, aurins, her Brother's button, her room key, the map, in addition to 8 camp supplies and some gold they've robbed from others. Burt gets 10 silver of the ruffin's possessions, also they take their heavy crossbow with 12 bolts, 3 shortswords, 6 daggers, and each of the bullies' leather armor. Burt leaves after consuming their poorly cooked beans, promising to name a sandwich after Toki, and Jelibye gets the two of them to agree to help her find her family estate before long. She ingratiates her way into helping with the Owlbear hunt in the morning and Kamose secures Sorina's assistance as well, she's not done well performing in Tent-town and splits the room with Jelibye for the coming week. Sorina mentions that Quincy's dreams were audibly shattered after learning that the town already has a brothel, as well as that a Shipwreck That Shouldn't Be in the forest, a full cargo ship in the forest, stuck in a tree. The next morning
