Personal history
A deity hungry for power found and seized one of the Fragments of Creation. This god, Lolth, found her mind and spirit opened to the minds of the Primordials trapped in their dying darkness. The link to those foul beings corrupted her in an instant, driving the deity to madness. But the Primordials' plan to seize the celestial realms controlled by Lolth and her kind was met with resistance and a twist they had not anticipated. The Primordials demanded that Lolth plant the Fragment within the Astral Sea, promising her total dominion of that realm in exchange for her fealty. Even within her madness, Lolth recognized that her fellow gods would turn on her before she could fully seize the power the Primordials promised. Instead, the mad god traveled to the farthest reaches of the cosmos, planting the Fragment in an empty expanse of churning Elemental Chaos. This seed eventually grew into the Abyss, and though the act gained her great power, her fellow gods, led by the elven god Ahborh, temporarily put aside their differences in order to imprison her there forever.
Trapped in a realm of her own making, but without any ability to influence the other planes, Lolth spent countless ages in darkness until she was able to gather to herself a host of demons and wove her web throughout the Abyss. Slowly, her madness receded and she sent her demons to the other planes, carefully spreading her web to all corners of creation.
When her project was complete, and she had eyes everywhere from the Astral Plane to The Nine Hells, she turned her attention on her captors; specifically Ahborh. She sent her servants into the ranks of the elves, spreading lies over thousands of years. One by one, groups of elves were deceived and began their worship of Lolth in secret. For a while this was enough, but as Lolth's worshipers grew, so did her powers. She started gaining the ability to penetrate the barrier that had been placed between her and the other planes. She granted her most fervent followers with her dark magics and every day her following grew.
When she believed her following powerful enough, she ordered them to rise against their perceived oppressors. The revolution was short lived and, with the reveal of her cult, her followers were hunted down. Feeling her powers fail with each death she ordered her followers to escape. She used an immense amount of her power to open a tunnel to The Underdark and then close it behind them. The next few thousand years, the followers of Lolth wandered The Underdark barely surviving until they discovered a city left behind by beings long dead. This was to become the first city of the Drow.
Since that day the Drow have become corrupted physically as well as mentally. The constant darkness, and influence of Lolth, robbing them of their eyes and skin pigments, but gifting them with other abilities from The Queen of Spiders.
Drow texts say that Lolth still rests in the Abyss, patiently waiting for the day she is able to escape her prison, and take her percieved rightful place as Queen of Everything.
