Footloose and Fancy Free in Virdin

General Summary

Flamerule 28th - Year of Rogue Dragons

Standing over the dead deep drake, the party decides to head northeast, figuring that it would connect with the life cave. There, they encountered several gricks, led by a grick alpha.
Turning south, they encountered several grimlock nests. Running around a bend to confront the creatures, Nicolas ran into the grimlocks' master, a medusa. Nearly turned to stone, he retreated, but the other members of Iluminus charged in. While not initially shielding their eyes, Pagu, Nicolas, and Reed temporarily resisted the petrification, although the initial glance turned their skin gray and stiffened their bodies. The party began attacking in the medusa's direction while not looking at the creature and landed some significant blows. Soon the medusa fell amid a flurry of swords and smites.
In the medusa's lair, they found another exit into the underdark tunnel, one which bypassed the drake's lair. The medusa's doorway to the underdark was clear from the inside, but blended with the stone on the outside. It was also ten feet up from the passage's floor.
Convinced that all of the threats were eliminated, the party began gathering all of the treasures, looking for additional intelligence, and claiming pieces of the monsters they defeated. Ulfgar chopped off and bled the deep drake's head and stinger, while Nicolas wrapped the medusa's head in a sack.
Calling up for the lift, Iluminus met again with Lt. Ryden. They spoke about guard details, and the fact that the opening to the underdark was no longer guarded, shaking some of the less-seasoned guardsmen. Ryden agreed to send to Bloodstone City for a learned priest to investigate and hopefully dispel the strange yellow mist. Nicolas gave Ryden the head of the medusa to send along with the request, as proof of the severity of the need.
Talking with the guards, Ulfgar spoke of the dwarven justice which he was sent to deliver. Nicolas steered the conversation to the idea of sending a communication to Ironspur and having Clan Hammerfall take possession of the Dourstone Mines. Ryden agreed to help that negotiation along.

Flamerule 29th (and onward) - Year of Rogue Dragons

Halorin, his pockets overflowing with gold, began looking for a set of goggles of the night. That search brought him back to Benezal's Alchemical Solutions at the Vaasan Gate. The goggles were one of the items that Benezal advertised for crafting, and agreed to make the goggles for the posted price of 1,000 gp (half due up front). She explained that the goggles usually take 20 days to craft.
Pagu and Ulfgar took the deep drake's head to Ret's Taxidermy to get stuffed as a trophy for Goodbarrel Manor, which cost 4,500 sp and would take 10 days.
Knowing that the disposition of the Dourstone Mines would take some time, the party settled down with some free time for one of the first times in the months since meeting.
